Addresses Hypatians
Officers Installed And New
Members Taken
In
"Just as certain dangerous obstacles
confront any organization, so in the
way of this literary society these prob
lems, these lions in the path, lie in
wait-.ions of indifference, laxity, and
adjustment," said Miss Foy Stevenson
in her inaugural address to the Hy
patian literary society Wednesday af
ternoon.
In speaking of the recent slackness
of duty on the part of officers, Miss
Stevenson said: "It is fatal to allow
any one duty to slip by undone; fatal
in the specific instance and deadly in
the habit of mind it induces. When a
member accepts an office, she tactit
ly accepts the condition that sle shall
in return meet the requirements of the
office. If she fails in the performance
of this duty, she is a failure in her
pledged word-and, worse than that,
she is a fraud."
Mis Stevenson showed that the
literary society has to adjust itself to
meet changing conditinns and to com
pete with risirg institutions, such as
the fraternity. She mentioned snob
hishness, clannishness, extravagance
inferior scholarship and interfenence
with discipline as being crit:c'sms of
the fraternity which are of the literary
society.
Tn closing Miss Stevenson urged the
members of the society to make a
study of parliamentary law, the
knowledge of. she declared, should not
be confined to officers, present or
nrocpective.
M'ss Sara Agnes Jackson was ap
ointed to serve as marshal de ring the
first society term. Officers were in
,talled.
it was decided that an entertainment
should he given sometime in October
announcement of which will be mad
later. The meeting during fair week
was dispensed with.

\ Advice to Loveworn
By Beatrice Barefacts
Dear Miss Barefacts:
I have met a young man only once
but I love him and he says he loves
me. I feel I believe in love at first
sight, yet I doubt. Do you think it's
possible?
Blue-eyes.
Dear Blue-eyes:
You are quite right in your belief.
Nobody would dream of denying that
love at first sight can happen. Set
your mind at rest. Love at first sight
is easy. It's love after ten years that's
hard.
Dear Miss Barefacts:
My girl friend and I have had an
argument. She says that men de
ceive the women they marry and are
never true to them. I say she's wrong.
All men aren't faithless to their wives,
are they?
Trusting.
D'ar Trusting:
If T were you T'd get rid of a friend

men's wives.
iDear l i,s Barefacts:
My husband is madly jealmus of me.
The slightest suspicion of my enjoy
in myself from him affects him so
violently that he takes to his bed for
1 day. T confess I like a good time but
hat can T do about it? He makes
