Light travels at the rate of 186,284
miles a second. And yet, we know of
certain ossified knots surmounting ana
tomies that have withstood the onslaught
so successfully that 'nary'a bit has pene
trated in "Lo these many years."
Shaking hands with the man who just
slammed you for a row of ash cans, in a
fair fight-good sportsmanship. Slinging
vocal mud at your opponent when his
back is turned-good politics.
Some girls don't even conceal their
thoughts,
After all has been said and done, it's
better to be thought a fool and remain
silent than to speak and remove all doubt
To start with, Smith doesn't cut a
distinguished figure in his evening
clothes. In a fashionable restaurant the
other night, as he stood near the door
waiting for his wife, a tall, pompous man
tame up and asked, "I say, my man, are
you the head-waiter ?"
As quick as a flash Smith answered,
"No, but I heard him tell a young man
this afternoon that he wasn't taking on
any more help." Anyhow. Al sho' can
handle the ol' cigar."
We will now sing, "She was only a
baker's daughter in search of a little

Americanism: Taking a small drink

speech you're going to make against the

Why Hoover even wears a double
breasted suit the year 'round. Must be
trying to boil down to Cal's size. Part
your hair and look cute "Herbie," the
ladies all love you.
Prohibition may have done nothing
else for the country but it has,- at least,
reduced the number of men who think
they can sing.
The more you know the more you forget,
The less you know the less you forget.
'nlhe more you forget the less you know,
And the less you forget the more you
know. So why, I ask you, should I
know?
Act' the little boy said there was no
difference going to church and a ball
game on Sunday. At church they say
"Stand up for Jesus," and at a ball
game, "For Christ's.Sake SIT DOWN."
The professor who thinks that genius
is one per cent inspiration and ninety
nine per, cent perspiration has several
students who thiik it's ninety-nine per
cent applesauce and one per cent baloney.
Now, all together, prof's. may come
and prof's. may go but the bull goes on
forever. Amen.
We remember best that which we wish
to forget-the dollar you owe the room

Freshmen Are Given
Psychological Tests
Professors McCall and Crow
Conduct Examination of
New Students
Psychological tests were given all the
freshmen at the University Friday morn
ing at the chapel hour, under the super
vision of Prof. W. C. McCall of the
Education Department, assisted by Prof.
Orin S. Crow of the same department
and several other faculty members.
The freshmen were divided into four
groups, one staying at the chapel, one
going to the science building, and the
otlier two going to the law library.
Here the students were given questions
pertaining to their work in high school,
subjects that they were weak in at high
school and other questions that will help
their professors in getting an insight into
their respective abilities.
After this, the freshmen were given
the intelligence tests papers.
By these tests, according to Dean
Baker, the professors of the University
will be able to determine just what the
characteristics of the students under
them are.
