__ cc Zeta Phi Entertains New Girls With Tea Fourteen New Girls Invited To Called During After noon Zeta Phi clhb entertained with a tea which was given Tuesday afternoon from 4:30 to 6 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Wilson G. Harvey, Trivoli Apartments, on Henderson street. The affair was given in honor of some "of the new girls. On the table, which was centered with a scarf of real lace, was a bowl of blue asters and snow-on-the-mountain. Four blue candles burned in silver candlesticks. The club colors, blue and white, were further carried out in the refreshments, punch, sandwiches, cakes, ice cream and mints being served. The officers receiving at the door were Miss Martha Milhous, president; Miss Stella Blake, vice-president; Miss Gwen dolyn Green, secretary; Miss Elizabeth Tompkins, treasurer, and Miss Mayre Wall, corresponding secretary. Serving in the dining room were Miss Gertrude Rigby, Jetty Cloyd, and Louise McIntosh. The new girls were invited to call were the Misses Dorothy Cunningham, Rosamond Betts, Geraldine Cate, Julia All, White Waters, Ruth Brown, Vivian Conner, Ruth DeCamp, Beryl McIntosh, Erma Meeker, Reberta Plowden, Char lotte Porter, Estelle Whitaker, and Etta Bynum. Alumni members are: Mrs. B. L. Parkinson, Miss Louise Simmons, Mrs. Kate Glenn Hardin, Mrs. Emily Bellin ger Reynolds, Mrs. R. L. Bryan, Misses Mary Ross Seibels, Carrie Williams, Dorothy Reeves, Virginia Wauchope, Margaret Lancaster, Agnes Carson, Vir ginia Greever, Mary Jane Dyer, Felie Clark, Leora Johnston, and Miss Irene Dillard. Patron and patroness of Zeta Phi club are Gov. and Mrs. Wilson G. Harver, Mfrs. D. E. Hansen, of the music depart ment is faculty member. Miss Martha Milhous is president. USc Beta Zeta Sorority Entertains Frosh Party Given At Wingfields Home In Honor Of New Girls Beta Zeta club entertained with a tea at the home of M:iss Elizabeth Wingfield on Senate street last 'uedday afternoon from 4 to 5 in honor of all the new gi-rls. The house wvas appropriately decorated la~ blne, silver and gold, golden rod and miohelmas daisies being the flowers used. Blue 'candles burned in silver candle stiCks. Death Delta Zeta sorority entertained infor mally yesterday afternoon from 4 :30 to 5 :30 in the sorority room on the cam pt's. The room was most attractively decorated in fall flowers, and the sorority colors, rose and nile green, were to'ed. The affair was given in honor of the f.reshmen. Owing to the death of Dr. A. C. Gibbes. and )-ED NE Banquet Given By Delta Zeta Saturday Many Out of Town Members Present To Enjoy Affairs at Rose-Mary A banquet was given Saturday even ing at the Rose Mary Tea Room by the members of the Beta Delta chaptet of Delta Zeta sorority in honor of the in stalling officers, patronesses, and Col umbia alumnae members. The tabiles, deoor ted in rose 'and green, were arranged in delta shape. In the center of the triangle was a huge vase of pink roses, where streamers from the three corners met. The place dards bore small, hand-painted rosebuds and at each plate were delta-shaped folders giving the program. A clever toast scheme, centering around au ancient kingdom, Delta Zeta, its law-givers, queen, pilgrims, and sur rounding castles, was carried out in verse. Miss Myrl Vaughn, former pres ident of the club, was toastmistress. Miss Eloise Shepherd gave a toast to the Delta Zeta sorority, Miss Foy Stevenson to its founders, Miss Sara Bowles: to the na tional president, Mrs. Carl G. Malett, of San Antonio, Texas, Miss Willie Joc Hughes to the out-of-town guests, and Miss Christine Roof to the alma mater. 'ielef;rgms from other 4hapters of Delta Zeta, welcoming Beta Delta into the sorority, were read aloud at the ta ble. Delta Zeta songs were sung be tween courses. Mrs. C. D. Fairer, of Prosperity, an alumnae of Randolph Macon, presented the new chapter with a silver loving cup in behalf of Alpha Xi chapter which sponsored the installa tion. Dancing was enjoyed until late in the evening. Out of town Delta Zetas here for the installation were: Mrs. W. E. Behanne, president of Beta province, and Mrs. Jack Yauger of Birmingham, Ala; Mrs. John Pease, editor of the Lamp, the Delta Zeta quarterly publication of Cin cinnatti, Ohio; and Mrs. C. D. Fairer of Prosperity, member of Alpha Xi chap ter. Mrs. Joe Quattlebaum, Jr., and Miss Agnes Crawford, both of Columbia, as sisted in the installation of the new chapter. Mrs. Robert Gibbes, patroness, was present at the entertainment. Friday morning at Melton Hall the Beta Delta members stood the examina tion on preparatory material. Friday af ternoon the,pledge service was held and that night the pledges were initiated. In the afternoon from six to seven Miss Agnes Crawford entertained the mem bers of Delta Zeta with a tea in her newly opened Silhouette Grill. New Girls Enjoy Teas -Given By Y.W.C.A. Among the numerous teas given for the new girls last week were those given by the Y.W.C.A. and the Athletic As sociation. The Athletic Association tea was held in the new athletic quarters in the basement of the gym, and all new girls were invited to attend and inspect the co-ed quarters. The Y.W. tea, whic was held, at the woman's building, was also in honor of all new girls, and was given as an introduction to the Y.W. council and other Y. W. members. The Y.W.C.A. assures all girls that member ship in this organization is open upon application and that a hearty welcome awaits any who are interested. Meetings are held each Thursday evening in Fliun Hall at 7 o'clock, and all new girls and old girls also are urged to be present thi-s egming Thursday ni-ght and begin work in one of the most instering and worth while organization on the campus. IColumbia Laundry S1323 T1aylne St Pone 4954 WS Beta Epsilon Wins Coveted Honor Cup Awarded Auwly to Chaptar Having Best Record' For News that Beta Epsilon chapter of Alpha Delta Pi had been awarded the Standard:zation Ctip of Alpha province was received here last week. This cup is awarded annually to the chapter hav ing the best record for leadership and participation in student activities. Beta Epsilon chapter of Alpha Delta Pi was installed at Carolina on February 17, 1928, and is the youngest of Alpha Delta Pi's 48 chapters. As a local the chapter was known as the Scarabean club, and was the first co-ed club to be organized. The winning of the Standardization cup is a coveted honor, and the "Baby" chapter is especially to be congratulated. Among the outstanding honors that came to the chapter last year was the awarding of the Algernon Sidney Sullivan medal lion to one of its members, Leora John ston. The chapter also holds the record of having more Phi Beta Kappas and Alpha Kappa Gammas than any other sorority at school. Officers of the chap ter are: Harriet Baker, president; Mar garet Aycock, vice-pres;dent; Beth Car son,secretary; and Floride Stoddard, treasurer. Active members are: Mar garet Livingston, Catherine Phillips, Mary Cuttino, Georgie Fishburne, Mary Carter Barnwell, Malinda Barnwell, An ne DuPre, Suzanne Jones, Frances Mon teith, Sarah Timmons, Elma Moore, Elise Legare, Mary Fitch, Florence Earl Roach, Clare King, Peggy Nickles, Mrs. Max King, and Virginia Hammond, who is a transfer from Lambda chapter at B renau.
