The coronation of Miss Dorothy

the student body of the Unviersity, was
held in the field house Tuesday night
at 8:30. The May queen election and
and coronation is an annual affair at
the University and a great deal of in

the large attendance of students and

The smartly dressed heralds, Billy
and Joe Sylvan, twin sons of Mr. and
J. B. Sylvan, who wore white satin and
carried large imitation trumphets, an

sion to the throne.
After the maids in waiting, the
flower girls, and the maid of honor
had approached the throne the newly

throne. While the May queen knelt
before the throne Dr. D. M. Douglas,
president of the University made the
following statement: "In behalf of the
University Df South Carolina it gives
me great pleasure to crown you as our
May queen," and placed the crown
upon Miss Poat.
The court procession included 22
maids in waiting, all coeds at the
University, who entered the field
house by twos. They wore bouffant
dresses of taffeta in various shades,
giving a rainbow effect as they stood
in front of the throne. Each maid
carried a beautiful armful of roses,
snapdragons and other spring flowers.
All wore silver slippers. They were,
