T e Very Idea!

The contest for the presidency of
the student body waxes, to say the
least, hot. Charges and conter-charges
are filling the air. Mud, (not beauty
clay either), is being flung with reck.
less abandon and innocent by-stand
ers are in grave danger of being hit.
If you ever committed an indiscretion,
you had better duck until this election
is over.
Political skeletons are being dragged
from dusty closets and vigorously
shaken and their eerie rattle is very
discomforting to various parties.
The campaigning has all the refine
ment, fairness, and sublety of a Chica
go "pineapple" contest. Truly, several
pages have been torn bodily from Big
Bill Thompson's book on "Votes At
Any Price." Our campus is untra
nodern. We have emphatically ar
rived.

One of the most distasteful features
of the whole election affair has been
the rise of a would-be Mussolini, a
self-appointed dictator who hands
down his arbitrary decision with the
air of finality that one would expect
from the delphic oracle, a petty gov
ernor, or the supreme court.
The student body has in'variably
resented being dictated to in the past
and justly so. Whether an overlord
is to be accepted at this late date re
mains to be seen. I hope hot.
This student body is quite capable
of making its own decisions when
.)oards appointed for the purt)ose fall
down. ...
ft is my opinon that the president of
the student body has overstepped him
self in declaring on the eligibility of
a certain student -o run for the office
Df president of the student body.
He has taken unto himself authority
neither written or implied and in so
doing has forfeited the support of the
student body. Whether the campus
sees the matter in this light remains
to be seerm.

Gentlemen:
The agent wvhile going through his
plunder stored in our baggage room
came across a can of your tobaeco, and
account of his not using a pipe he made
me a present of this tobacco.
You will note the revenue stamp
and your memo which was inclosed.
The tobacco was put up in 1910, six
teen years ago. But it was in good
shape, of remarkable flavor, and was
greatly enjoyed by me.
Thought you would be interested irn
knowing how your tobacco held out in
these days of fast living.
Yours very truly,

The comment concerning tlht pru,
gramme at the Town Theatre this year
was very favorable. It gave a list of
lie productions and especially stressed
the fact that this particular theatre was
making an at cmpt to give its patrons
the very best numbers.
Mr. Dean, director of the Town Thea

to pu this theatre on a higher basis.
't is very scldom :hat the New York
Tunies looks this far South to pay its
compltimeu s to what seems to us to be
a miior affair. But this shows that Mr.
Dean's work is receiving recognition by
those who are capable of judging. Only
a few weeks ago the Theatre Arts Craf.
magazine brought this out by a rather
lengthy comment on a p'lay presen ed ;t
