INKPOT..
TENEMENT football enters in a whirl
and will go out in a like manner.
The cold snap is keening a good
many teams from entering the tour
ney list and interest is not quite so
high this year as it was last fall.
- INKPoT -
BASKETBALL will soon be the king
again. Spectators at the indoor
games will have the opportunity
this season of witnessing them with
out having to crowd in a small seat
ing space. T:he new field house will
be adequate to han4le everyone who
cares to attend.

BURNETT STONEY guides the des
tines of the indoor Bird team.
Stoney has a good rep as former
freshman coach and he has very fine
material on hand this winter. The
Gamecocks are pointing toward the
corference tournament again this
season.

LAST YEAR, Carolina stood at the
head of the Southern Conference
during the regular season. She won
ten games and lost only one, that
being to Washington and Lee by a
small score.
- INKPoT -
CAPTAIN "HEINIE" FAIRE is in
tent on making his senior year his
biggest as far as basketball goes.
Ihe former Episcopal high star has
had a shining career on the court
during his three years at Carolina.
- INKPoT -
BUSTER HOLCOMBE is a crack cen
ter and that sews a mighty hole left
by Si Seideman. That reminds us
of the magnificent game Si played
against Georgia Tech in the Atlanta
tournament. He did what no man
last year was able to do before him
-he held the giant "Tiny" Hearn
to a ridiculousiy small score-two
points. And when Seideman left
the floor, Mike Windus hopped on
the great Yellow Jacket star, and
only two more ppints were made by
that gentleman during the remainder
of the contest. Carolina won, 32
to 18.
- INKPoT"
MONKEY Clark is slated for service
in the coming basketball session.
Monk's chief fame comes from his
fine work against the Vanderbilt
Commodores last year. He is a fine
running mate for Fair. Neither of
them wfil have any time to loaf in
making the team with Nolan and
Lamar shoving them so closely.
- INKPoT -
WALTER Chandler, Greenville boy'
who played regularly in~ his first
varsity season last year, is showing
excellent form. Chandler is a fin
ished workman, in handling and
shooting the spheroid. Jim Farr
will surely play guard during a large
part of the season. Windus can play
anywhere but Stoney may put him
at guard for good.
- INKPoT -
A NUMBER of Carolina folk braved
the cold and rain to go to Atlanta
last Saturday for the Tech-Georgia
fray. Coach Harry Lightsey was
one of the travelers angl he gives a
deal of interesting sidelights on the
game.
- INEPoT -
LIGH'IISEY gives Tech credit for win
ning but claims that Georgia was
handicapped - by the rain and muddy
field. The wvork of the Tech lines
meJ3 was the deciding factor, he says.
- e Georgia hacks would start many
times but were unable to obtain foot
hold on the slippery field.

Several Letter Men Return to

Coach Burnett Stoney, newly. ap
pointed mentor of the University of
South Carolina basketball squad, be
gan drilling his men Monday afternoon
in preparation for the 1928 season.
Two weeks of practice remain before
the Christmas holidays begin, after
which the regular season will begin.
Possibly one or. two exhibition games
will be played during the intervening
two weeks.
Eighteen game are on the schedule
at present and more will be added.
The longest trip on tap for the team
is the same virt-wally as was followed
last year when the "indoor Game
cocks" invaded Virginia and Maryland.
Washington and Lee, Virginia Military
Institute, and the University of Vir
ginia are listed on the '1928 roster.
If Carolina is successful enough in
the current season the team will go to
the Southern Conference tournament
in Atlanta, which they attended last
year. The Gamecocks went to the
semi-finals in the Atlanta tournament.
being eliminated by Vanderbilt.
With the exception of two men. Capt
Seideman and Bill Rogers, Ston-y has
all of last season's squad to work with.
Captain "Hienie" Faire, who was voted
on hand to hold his regular place on
an all-conference forward, last year, is
the team. Monk Clark, who played
outstanding ball in the tournament last
March, appears to be the obvious
choice for the other forward position.
