"The society is in a better condition
than I have ev.er known it, and I have
been a member four years," said Miss
Ida Johnston, newly elected president
of the Euphrosynean literary at its
regular meeting on Wednesday after
noon. "I shall endeavor to keep it
where it is, and I shall work untiringly
to bring about any possible benefits
that I can. I appreciate the honior you
have done me in electing me your presi
dent; I shall try to prove my gratitude
by my efforts."
All the other officers were installed
also. Plans for the debate between the~
two co-ed societies were discussed.
The preliminaries are to be held in the
Euphradian hall November 30th. The
query is Resolved: That there should
be uniform marriage and divorce laws.

ely, Elleen Neal, and Julia Stevenson.
The most modest co-ed we know of,
even blindsfolds herself when she takes
a bath.

Help Pay for College

One hundred and sixty students are
listed with the employment bureau of
the University Y.M.C.A., over half of
whom have regular employment, accord
ing to figures just released by Miss Es
ther Graydon, office secretary of the 'Y'.
The average salary of these working,
students is sufficient to cover their board,
around $20 a month. The student earn
ing the highest salary is a soda jerker
who makes $675 per year. There are a
number of students earning around $500
a year.
These students represent all occupa
tions and include expert sign painters,
printers, typists, clerks, cashiers, mech
anics, machinists, waiters, hotel clerks,
soda jerkers, tutors, barbers, collectors,
saiesmen, ushers, accountants, clerical
,workers, plumbers, carpenters, filling sta
tion workers, textile workers, operators
of pVsting and adding machines, mailing
clerks, and manual laborers.
Last year $34,000 was earned by stu
dents listed with the employment bureau
and the returns this year are ahead of
those of last year at this time. The re
sponse this year has been from many'dif
ferent fields, as from housewives,
whose demands inciude the moving of
lawns, cleaning of yards, houses, etc.
The 'Y' employment bureau is enabl
ing many students to earn part of their
college expenses, and anyone in the city
having jobs of any sort should get in
touch with Miss Graydon over telephone

T Give Sundial
Large Granite Son, Supporting
a Sundial t -Giv.
Chi circle, Omicron Delta Kappa,
will within the next two weeks present
to the University a large granite stone
supporting a sundial, and bearing a
bronze plate, with the inscription:
"Presented by Weston and Brooker,
mounted by O.D.K., 1927." A mem
ber of the fraternity will make the pre
sentation and Dr. Douglas will accept
on behalf of the University.
The stone is the gift of the Weston
and Brooker Quarries, and is a large
granite block weighing nearly two
tons. The sundial which the O.D.K. cir
cle is mounting on it was made in Eng
land 50 years ago, and has lain unused
in the Mathematics department since
its purchase. The University, through
the Math department, is donating the
sundial.
It is probable that the freshman
chapel period will be taken as the time
'for the presentation, in order that as
many students as possible may witness
the ceremony.
