At the meeting of the W.A.A. held

Miss Renee Mayers gave a report on
the Athletic Association of American
College for Women, and a history of
the co-ed association.
Miss Rosalie Turnee read the con
stitution for the benefit of the new
members. The.point system of giving
honors was presented, voted upon and
accepted. Training slips were give.i

check will be used, leaving it entirely
to the girl's honor. Miss Clara Bethea
was elected assistant manager in track,
and Miss Mary Lina Fellers, assistant
manager in hockey.
There was also the election of ma pa
gers for. the class teams. Miss Mry
Goodwyn was elected from the senior
class, Miss Anne Truesdale, junior;
Miss Edna Kirton, sophomore, and
Miss Darice Jackson, freshman. Ther,!
was also some discussion about the
aifferent class colors.
Miss Thelma Lockman talked about
class prWctices, giving the following
schedule to be carried out as near
as possible:
Monday-3:00, Senior-Junior.
Monday-4:30. Sophomore.
Tuesday-3:30, Freshman.
Wednesday-3:00, Junior-Senior
Wednesday-4:30, Freshman.
Friday-3:30. Sophomore.
Miss Virginia Muller was elected
manager of the hiking team, and Miss
Inez Watts manager of tennis.
At the conclusion of the business, a
stunt was given by the manager of the
different teams.
'If a junior or senior cannot practice
wvith her team, then practice wvith the
sophs or fresh, and vice versa. The
practices are showing up well. Much
interest is b)eing shown in this sport.
To "keep training" one must have an
hour's exercise a day. The best way
to get it is through these practices.
Watch the bulletin board at the Wom
an's Building for snappy posters and
hints about hockey.

HANKINS GIVES ADDRESS
Morse and Smith Win Over Ste

in Debate
Literary hash was served the Claio
sophics at the weekly meeting of the
society on Tuesday. A program feat
uring great variety and surprises was
immensely enjoyed by the member
present and several business matters of
importance were acted upon.
E. K. Pritchard, chairman of the
Honor committee, in response to an
invitation of the society, gave an ad
dress on the history and meaning of
"the oldest honor principle in America,"
in which he urged the co-operation of
literary society men to make the honor
principle a living actuality and thu,
prevent the return to the old spy sys.
teni.
J. M. Hankins rendered a recitation
on "The French Note" followed by a
short talk of E. L. Farmer on the
"Wade Hampton Statuts." A declara
tion of W. W. Culp on "American
Democracy" was reminiscent of ante
bellum days.
The feature debate 'was won by the
negaive team of J. L. Morse and Sher
wo6d Smith over H. B. Stevenson and
Roy Lister on the query, "Resolved:
That motion pictures are more harmful
than beneficial to a college student."
The speakers waxed enthuastic and re
tained their poise despite the.turning o.f
th.e lights, during which time the critic
fell down the steps of the rostrum while
President Godshall pounded vigorously
for order.
An impromptu debate evoked even
greater ierriment when the speakers
failed to prove anything on the sub
ject. "Resolved: That the hen who laid
the egg is the mother of the chicken
and not the hen who hatched it," other
than when the same hen laid and
hatched the egg, she is inevitably the
mother of the chicken, and also that
regardless of the number of mothers a
chicken may have, it can have but one
daddy.
Jasper Derrick, of Johnson. was
elected vice president of the society.
Forrest Godshall was reinstate.d as 1t
member. Seven new members were!
also introduced into the society. They
were Rodger Pinckney, of Beaufort;
G. K. Goslin. of Tinmonsville; Edwin
M. Allen, of Florence; Norman Duke,
of Union; J. S. Taylor. of Cross An
E. L. Oulla, Jr.. of Florence.
Some of the initiates remarks were
refreshingly different. One new fresh
man member confidentially told the
members that they would not get more
out of the society than they put into it.
Another considerate first year man of
fered to anything in his power for
mlembers except when lhe w~as studying
or on errands for others. Stilt another
excited freshmlan awoke dlormlant mem
bers with the statement that he was
glad .to join the Euphradian literary
society.
"Lady," said Mike. "would you lendi
me a cake of soap?"
"Do you mean to tell me you want
soap?"
"Yes'm. Me partner's got de h'ecups
an' I want to scare himl."
