Eleven Remembers Sting ing Defeat Adminittered by Birds Last Year The Gamecock varsity football squad. with prospects of -: trvam-lomly hard game looming ahead of them. departed yesterday afternoon for Richmond. Va where tomorrow they will face the Gobblers of V.P.I. The Gobblers were the second team in the Virginia-Maryland section to feel the sting of the Gamecock's spur, last season. They were subdued more thoroughly than the University of Maryland, being completely snowe-1 under a 19 to nothing score. Conse quently, they are out for revenge i., plenty. Richmond's leading papers were magnanimous in praise of Carolina'.; sensational and startling victory. Carolina scored a touchdown, when E.dens carried the oval across from the two yard line in the second quarter. He kicked the goal successfully and by that margin they were victorious for the BUIlpups unleashed a determined attack shortly after the Biddie's scored and (rove ap the field for a counter touch (own. Nettle missed the goal. Carlisle Beall was the Biddie's driving demon. Two sparkling runs by him were the main attractions of the con test. One of the runs was for 45 yards aid put the ball on the 15 yard mark. Edens clipped off seven more. Blihunt carried igto the two yard line and Edens went over on a hidden hall play. The Bullpips sought to remedy the situation and after an exchange of punts gaired p0SsCSS'01 of the valuable oval in midfield. Lin plunges by Wiison and Nettles put it on the 38 yard line. A triple pass made 13 yards. Then Nettles, standing far back from the scrimmage line shot a pass over the goal line to Ryan. Nettles failed to convert the try for-point. and thereby the young Cadets lost their opportunity 'to knot the score. Carolina made a second effort to tally before the half terminated. With the ball on the 20 yard tape, Beall dashed around end for 26 yards. Matheny and Beall alternated in smashing the blue line for long gaidis and landed theball on the six yard line with a minute left to play. The Citadel pups held like a wall and took the oval on their five yard line. Matheny and Beall wvere Carolina's best bets. Nettles, half, and WVilson, q;uarter gained consistently for the Cita del.
