FRESHMEN TO
HAVE NEW TYPE
OF "RAT" CAP
K. S. K's to Enforce All First
Year Men to Wear Regu

TOWN "STUDES" INCLUDED
Canteen to Handle Caps for Stu
dents-Supply Expected
at Early Date
New "rat" caps will soon adorn the
heads of freshmen at the University of
South Carolina. At a meeting of the
K..K. last Monday night two new
style caps were shown and a vote
taken by the members of the club fav
ored a solid garnet cap, something on
the order of a skull cap with a bill at
tached. The bill is to be black and a
small black "C" will have the garnet as
a background.
These caps have been ordered and
should arrive on the campus within the
next two weeks. They will be sold at
a special low price at the University
canteen. The canteen will not be al
lowed to charge more than one dollar
for the new head-gear and arrange
ments have been completed whereby
the price will gradually be reduced. The
canteen is to be allowed a percentage
of profit not to-exceed twenty per cent
for handling the caps.
No effort will be made by the K.S.K.
to enforce the wearing of caps by
freshmen until the new supply arrives.
Members of the group realize that the
supply of old style caps was not great
enough to allow every man to purchase
one and conseq6ently nothing will be
done until it is possible for every man
to have a cap. However, those who
have caps are expected to wear them
at all times and, it is stated, special at
tention will be paid to those who have
the old style caps and refuse to wear
them.
* If a man has' already purchased an
old style cap he will not be expected
to buy one of the. new caps, although
it is the desire of the club to eventually
have all "rat" caps alike. Nothing will
be done in this direction this year. The
only requirement will be that every
freshman wear a "rat" cap of some
kind,'eiher new or old style and no ex
cuses will be accepted.

first exercised his historic ability with
the Dramaiztic club of Wofford college.
