During Regular Library Hours The University library has recently made an addition to the many museums and relic rooms of the The Capital City. This room is found at the rear of the main library building, it is com plete with furniture and fixtures. Mr. Kennedy states that the library has other relics that will be placed under glass cases and added to the collection already in the room. Among the rare pieces of furniture in the room, are two mahogany cabin ets, with black Italian Monolith marble tops. These cabinets are very interest ing in that they were built for the Confederate war, on order of the legis lature. They also contain some of the University's most treasured boolks. The most valuable and rarest piece of furniture in the collection is the colonial governor's chair of state, a genuine Chippendale. It is noted all over the country for it has been proto graphed and shown in many magazines fon antigue. A canopy and the Eng lish c9at of arms once graced this relic of colonial South Carolina. . . REYNOLDS 1] 044E CLUB IS HEADED FQP BANNER YEAR Larger NuIber Than Usual Have Applied-Club May Be Larger This Year CONTEST HELD CLEMSON Performance Free to All Stu dents--Wil Be Given on Campus The Carolina Glee club, under the leadership of Frank Woodruff, presi dent, and Robert Jones, manager, promises to be one of the best in the South this year. Last year the club missed first place in the State Contest by only a few points, and Furman, the winner, took first place in the Southern contest by a wide margin. Almost the entire club of last year will be back, and with the addition of -niw material, an excellent group of singers should be produced. Mr. Matteson states that a large number have registered for the Glee club, and he is expecting to take a larger club on the road this year than usual. So the new boys will have am ple opportunity to make good. The State Contest will be held this year at Clemson the first week in December, with five or six clubs trying for the cup. Last year it was in Co lumbia. Some excellent places to the present date have already been booked, The University welcomes the public. at all times when the library is open, to visit the building and view the treasures contained therein. WIU Cath9rine Phillips Thii Art Here Miss Philips Wil Take Graduate Work Here While Teaching Miss Catherine Phillips, a graduate of the class of '27, is back in Colurnbia teaching art. Her studio, very bizarre, and unusual in arrangement, is on the second floor of the garage at Rembert House, a room which also serves as the club room for the Scarabean club. The studio is at present being rettovated, and on its completion, will be a most attrac tive place. Miss Phillips received her !egree in art at the University, an&.is now doing graduate work here. She was a capable teacher in the art department duriqgtoe summer school, and is teaching Univer sity classes here now, in addition to the twelve pupils whom she will have at her studio. and many more are being added. Last year the trip to Queens College at Charlotte met with such great su;cess that the boys were all eager to return. The Glee elub had many attractiye offers last year to sing in the best theaters, but could not accept, as it would have been necessary to miss much time from school. A performance will be given this year on the campus, to which students will be admitted on presentation of athletic tickets. Last year the club sang in chapel, to which students were admitted upon presentation of fifty cents. cents.
