Joe Hines Acquires
University--Wise Boy
Wall Street Shaken by Huge
Purchase of University
Yesterday
Wall street and centers of high
finance in general, were highly elated
yesterday when news of the purchase
of the University of South Carolina by
Joseph E. Hines, Esq., of Prosperity,
was received. The stock market sear
rapidly during the course of the day;
and for a while Wall street was flood
ed with cablegrams and ,counnuniques
from home and abroad. But on ac
count of the long-headedness and 6
nancial sagacity of the University
maget, calmness and quietude pre
vailed at the close of the (lay's busi
ness.
NIr. Hines, widely known throughout
all South Carolina in janitorial circles,
is an alum of the state university.
On interviewing him, he appeared to
be as pround of his investment as a
youth is of the first knightly growth
that fringes his upper lip.
While in college, Mr.' Hines, coni
mtonly known as "Bull (log Joe," earned
his own expenses as chamber boy to
Marshall Cantey; and the success of
Mr. Hines as a financial wizard is due
in no small degree to his experience in
such a capacity. Three chairs for

Mr. Hines stated that financial pre

Messrs. Going and Simpson expei
