Owl Club Entertains with Evening Dance Thirty Couples Present at Affair Given at Green Parrot Tea Room The Owl Club entertained last Wed nesday evening at the Green Parrot tea room with a dance in honor of its mem bers and invited guests. About thirty couples were present at the affair. Dancing was engaged in from 9:30 until 12:30 with the exception of a brief intermission during which light refresh ments, in the form of sandwiches and coffee were served. Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Hope and Mr. and Mrs. J. 0. Sheppard acted as cheper ones to the party. The young ladies at tendinig were Misses Elise Cross, Eliza beth Douglas, Kitty Minus, Floy Vance, .\artha Loveling, Ethelind Pope, Rosa lind Quattlebaum, Katherine Means, Mabel Harvey, Mabel Bradikey, Dolly loore, Sarah Bostic, Ruth Hunter, Sal ly Horton, and Miss Totsy Whitaker. The Owl Club is one of the foremost sOcial organizations on the campus, hav ing been revived three years ago. The club proposes to entertain frequently (Iring the remainder of the terni with affairs similar to that of last Wednesday evening. -U.S.c. Sphinx Club Given Dance at Lake View Room Decorated With Club Col ors-Melody Clowns Fur nish Music The Sphinx club of the university gave a da4ice for its members and invited guests iast Thursday evening at the Lake View Tea Room. The suburban retreat was decorated with the club's colors and evergreen which was scat tered here and there among the tapes tries. The Melody Clowns, a local orchestra furnished music for the occasoin. Officers of the club are Buster Wise, president; Billy Coleman, vice-president; awd Dave Rembert. scretary-treasurer. -U.S.C. Pyramid Club Elects Gregg as President Neil Carrol Vice-President - Club to Give Dance During Easter Week Emmett Gregg, ot Fiorence, was eected president of the Pyramid Club at the last meeting, held last week. Oth er officers are vice-president, Neil Car rill, of York; secretary, Albert E. Rains ford, of Edgefield: treasurer. Leslie )ickert, Rock Hill. Joe Hines, of Spar tanburg, was elected to serve on the I:ter club council with the president. The outgoing officers are: W. P. Bas kin, Jr., of Dazall, president ; Emmett Gregg. of Florence, vice-president; Reg idiald Kramer, of Coltumbia. secretary, and A. W. Holler, on the Initer club council. The Pryamids are planning for their dance wvhich is to he given during Eas ter wveele.. Wauchope Club Has Meeting_Thursday Henceforth the WVauchope club will have a calendar of ftutre meetings, a flexible butt pre-arranged schedule of programs. It is thought that th, will improve thtc qutality of the programs by giving members more time to wo~rk up a composition. The next meeting will be at the homie of M'ss Elizabeth Lindsay, the regular night having been changed from Fri - (lays to every' secondl and fourth T1hu,r5 Arrow Club Gives Dance at Club House Many Out of Town Visitors At tend Dance Last Monday Evening Among the social affairs of the season at the University was a dance given by the Arrow Club at their home on Pick ens Street. The club is one of the active social clubs at the University and the dance this yeat- was a gentle reminder of the dance givet by this club at the season of Washington's birthday last year. The house was fittingly decorated for the occasion, the color scheme being lavender and white, the colors of the club. The young ladies attending were Miss Allie Smith of Charleston; Mary Cau die and Sophia Vogel of Sumter; Mig non Wall of Winthrop; and Misses Elizabeth Douglas, Mable Bradley, Mar garet Withers, Vestal Eva and Lee Dell \Hawfons-, Susan Guignard, and Elizabeth Phiillipps, all of Coiumbia. Other invited guests were: Jack Davis, Wesley Huit, Bill Burnside, Dick Ed gerton. Enniett Gregg, Neil Carroll, Joe Parks, W. J. Culp, Kenneth Beck, and J-- .K. Williams. Johnnie Pate Pres. of Inter-Club Council Law of Chance Invoked to Elect Member of Hermes to Presidency ,the Inter-Club Council met Sunday night for the purpose of electing officers for the second term. By agreement among the menibers, the ever sought-for Law of Chance was ap plied to the means by which the next presid(mnt of the Council was to be elect ed This was done in order to equalize, among the nine representatives of the2 various clubs on the campus, the chance for the prospective position. Jolminie Pate was elected from that or ganization as the new president; Buster Wise, vice-president, from the Spnihx ; and Hilly Brunson, secretary-treasurer, from the Owl Club. A German clul representative was informally added to the membership of the Council. Heretofore the German club has acted iridependently of all other social organi zations on the campus. Officers of that club. Sunday night, expressed the wishes of their organization to become affiliated with the workings of the Inter-Club Council. It was proposed that the treas urer of the German club act as tha, club's representative to the Council. -U.S.C. Kershaw Walsh and Charles Fish burne,, both graduates of the Chanti cleer, discussed the traditions of the club, its purpose and its value. Other graduate members present were: J. L. Mills, Robert Barnwell, and Archibald Hutto. A meeting will be held next Friday. At this time Hutto and Mills will give discussions on Robert G.- Ingersoll, with readings from his works. -U.S.C. Tertulia Espanola Holds Regular Meet Annie Kaminer and C. C. Foster Are New Members Taken in -Refreshments Served La Tertulia Espanolia held its regular meeting at Melton Hall, Wednesday night at 7:00 o'ciock. Two new mem bers, Annie Kaminer, and C. C. Foster were initiated after which a program of jokes and music was given by Wilbur Zeigler. Refreshments, consisting of cocoa and sandwiches, were served by a re freshment committee, composed of fresh men members of the club. The cl) is the most newly organized affair on the campus made up entirely of students taking Spanish. The next meeting will be held at the home of Prof. McCall on Pickens street in acceptance of his invitation to (o so. -U.S.C. History Club Meets Papers Are Read At a meeting of the Graduate History club, last Friday night, John Burchell Moore read a paper on Cardinal Mercier and Miss Childs gave a paper on. the Southern Quarterly Review.
