Matteson Entertains Carolina Glee Club Gold Keys Presented to Fourteen Mbmbers After State Contest Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Matteson en tertained the Carolina glee club last Saturday evening at the'r home in Hollywood. Punch and sandwiches were served. Fourteen men, including old and new nembers of the club were presentel with gold keys. The new men honore.l were considered on a basis of out. standing ability. Other keys will be awarded before the end of the year. Those receiving keys were: Huger King, Robert Coker, Sam Pearson, Ers kine LeGette, Aubrey Gooding, Wal lace Prescott, Frank Woodruff, Ralph Lewis, and among the new men were: Anthony Fogarty, Alfred Lawton, Bob Jones, Badger Baker, James Cooper, and John Kimbel. - U.s.c. - FACULTY SELECTS SENIOR HONOR CLUB (Contrnued on Page Six) S. L. Ready has served on the Y.M. C.A. council since his freshman year and was a member of the Southern field council; he is a member of the Clariosophic literary society, serving a term as treasurer. He is a member of the University quarter on the Glee club, has served as circulation manager of the Gamecock and both as assistant business manager and as business man ager of the Garnet and Black. He was historian of the sophomore class of '25, and was Clariosophic representative on the Student council. He belongs to the Tennis club and the Hermes club. Cecil Scott is president of the stu dent body, president of the senior class, and president of the Clariosophic liter ary society. He was vice-president of the junior class. He has also held the positions of critic, treasurer, and chair man of the Board of Pardons in the Clariosophic society. He has belonged to the Y.M.C.A. council for four years and has held the office of recording secretary, treasurer, member of the board of directors, and student assist ant secretary. He has been president of his tenement Bible class for two years. He was a member of the Lit tie Triangle debating team in 1925-26. and was a w'nner both times. In 1926 he won the best debaters' medal in the Clariosophic society. In 1925-26 Mr. Scott was business manager of the Gamecock, and in the same year was advertising manager of the Garnet and Black. In 1925 he -J; on the Carolinian staff. In 1925-26 h. was student assistant in chemistry and in 1926 he held the honorary scholit ship in education. He is a member o, the Press club, the Carolina Scientiic society, and is president of the Bap:9; club. Harry Barnett is a member of the Euphradian literary society, and hel t he office of ce nsor in 19215-26. an d was f'nancial secretary in 1926. IHe was on the Carolinian staff last year and was awardled the Hlutchison honorary scholarship in economics. He is an as sistant in the department of economic., this year and was vice president of the Sumter county club during 1925-26. The election of the Sen'or Honor club is at present in the hands of the fac ulty, but, according to the catalog, it is p)lanned to p)ut it largely in the hands of alumni miembers of the club andl the student body. - u. s.c. - "Who was that gentleman I seen you with last night?" Beware of punppy love-it oftena leads to a doge's life Orator's Contest Be Held After Holidays Preliminaries for Euphradian Contestants for Keitt Oratorical Finals for the Orator's Medal con test in the Euphradian society will be held January 4, 1927, the first day of school after the holidays and incident ally the first meeting of the society af ter vacation time, at 7:45 p.m. There will be no preliminaries in this con test. Only those men who have not won a medal while at the University for speaking and debating are eligible to compete. Orations must be original. Prelini'naries to pick three Euphra dians to represent their society in the finals of the Keitt oratorical contest (to be held Monday, January 10) against the Clariosophics, w ill be be held in the Euphradian society hall Friday night, January 7, at 7:45 p. m. All Euphradians, except those who. have won either the Keitt or the Gon zales oratorical medal, are eligible to compete in this contest. Orations must be original.
