NO GAMES TOMORROW
Second Round of Winners in Se
ries to Begin Today-Losers
in Consolation
Two games of tenement footbal,
every afternoon since last Saturday, :s
not enough to satisfy the craving of
University students for the gridiron
game, if one can judge by the number
of spectators who viewed the intra
mural games on Melton field during the
last week. There will be no games to
morrow as the Gaffney-Columbia high
school battle is to be played on Melton
field.
Today will see the beginning of the
second series of games, which will de
termine the tenement champions of
the University of South Carolina. The
losers in the first round, to play in a
consolation series. The winner in this
event will have the privilege of chal
lenging the runner-up to the champ'ons
in the first series. - The winner of this
game will be considered the second
best team on the campus. The winner
of the first series will, of course, be
hailed as champions of the intra-mural
football teams.
So far, the games have been replete
with thrills, and contrary to the
thoughts of many, pract'cally all of the
games have been won by close scores.
In only one game have more than two
touchdowns been scored by one team.
Everything that an intercollegiate foot
ball game can offer has been pulled on
Melton field. Every possible means of
scoring points has been used, from
touchdowns to touchbacks.
On last Saturday, in the first game
of the series, tenement 6 won over ten
ement 20, in a hard fought game, by
the score of 6 to 0. Immediately after
this game tenement 22, 14 and 15, who
have a joint team, took the field. Ten- t
enient 22 was victorious, the score be
ing 7 to 3.
On Monday afternoon, the combined
team of tenements 3 and 4, ran rough
shod over the team from tenement 9,
to win by the score of 19 to 0. This
is the only game where one team has
scored more than two touchdowns.
Following this game, tenement 10 de
feated tenement 25, 3 to 0, in one of the
most exciting games seen in the series.
It is understood that this game is to be
protested on the grounds that tenement
1I0 played a man who had been out for
freshman football during the first of
the season. According to Mr. J. 0.
Van Meter, Director of Physical Edu
cation, no official action has yet been
taken.
On Truesday afternoon, tenement 28
lost to tenement 1, 12 to 0. In the game
following this, the combined team of
tenements 6 and 7, battled for five
(luarters w'th the team representing.
tenement 2.. The game ended with the
score 0 to 0. It is undlerstoodl that this
tie will be played off.

One of the most important subjects
o be brought up before the Woman's
Xthletic Association Monday afternoon,
s a system of awards to be given those
artEcipating in sports.
One proposition is the popular point
;yttem, which will probably give one
mndred points for making a class
cam, twenty-five points for going out
for class team and failing to make it.
l'wenty-five extra points for making
arsity.
For a certain number of points, prob
ibly 1,000, the g'rl will receive a big
etter. Those who make over 1,000
points, to receive stars. For a certain
number of points in one sport, a letter
>r emblem in that sport. Other re
:uirements for the above awards, how
ver, would include scholarship, sports -
nanship, interest, spirit and all the
rerequisites that go to make up the
deal student.
Not only the major sports awards
would be worked on this basis, but also
wards for hik'ng, track and gymna
tic work would he determined on the
;ame basis.
The other proposed system is not so
:omnplicated, but wvould probably eli
inmate many hard workers from any'
eward. Trhere would be numerals for
lass teams and a letter for the var
ity squad. Also a big letter for the
tstanding athletes in all sports elect
:d each year from the junior or senior
lass.
