Student Conference To Be in Wisconsin Experienced Lecturers Are Be ing Secured by Committee on Entertainment From December 28 to January 1, a National Student Conference will be held at Milwalkee, Wisconsin, under the direction of the Counail of Chris tian Associations of America. The pur pose of the conference will be to af ford students from all parts of the United States an opportunity to share their best experiences and convictions on present day questions concerning the christian way of living. An explanatory pamphlet states that such questions as these, will be taken up. Whither do all our christian striving lead us after all? Is there a way out for us and for the world, or are we in a "Jam" where the forces against us are greater than those for us? The conference comes as the re sult of prolonged deliberation on the part of student christian associations from coast to coast. It is felt that the time has now come for just such a con ference, at which christian students may endeavor to find the relation that their lives bear to the vast areas of human need in the world today. The committee is inviting a number of experienced and well-informed coun sellors, who will see that the discus sions are grounded in reality. All pos sible efforts are being put forth to make the conference interesting and worthwhile. Students attending the conference will have to pay their own expenses. Special convention rates of "a fare and a half" are expected. on all railroads. The city of Milwaukee, is offering to entertain half of the delegates on the harvard plan, that is free rooms and breakfast will be given them. The remainder of the students will be ac commodated by hotels at rates ranging from $1.00 to $1.50 per day. Quotas have been assigned the dif ferent colleges and Universities. Caro lina will be allowed to send eight dele gates. Those who are interested in going should see Mr. Bell at Flinn Hall sometime withing the next three weeks. The committee is asking that all regi strations be in by November 29. If more detailed- information is de sired, pamphlets may be obtained at the Y. A syllabus entitled "Students and Life," offer a good forecast of what will be taken up at the confer ence. - U.S.C. - "TRUTH" TO BE GIVEN SOON AT TOWN THEATER MRS. BARNES TO PLAY Four-Act Play Will Be Presented in Three Acts by Daniel A. Reed "TIruth." a four act comedy is now being rehearsed to be given at the Towi Theatre carly in December. This production, wvritten wheni foul act plays were in vogue, to be rendered in three acts by director Reed. the con. dlensation to be brought about by divid ing the th~ird act into two scenes. Mrs. Dabney Barnes, formerely Mis, Patrica Cannon of Ohio arid a gradu ate of Chicora College will play th leading feminine role. Opposte het will be Mr. Harold Tatum, stage societa star and architect for the state offic4 building. Mrs. John Crews, Mrs. Nellie Mirauli and Mrs. Lamar Edmunds will taki p)arts. Harold Funderburk is the onl3 University student participatig. The dates for the presentation are set as the ninth, tenth and eleventh of De cember, but Mr. Reed has stated that i1 will not go on before it is fully ready He stated that this play requires a larg< amount of rehearsing for perfection. So it was not surprising that a lively pickpocket cast gloating eyes on Dr. Baker and Dr. Wauchope Thursday in Orangeburg at the Carolina-Citadel game. "Aha l" thought this pickpocket, "here is where I make a killing; here is where I buy the wife that new fur coat, and get mine out of the hock; here is where I get the old bus fixed, even up with Bill, and-well-maybe 'stock' up on my low supply." Forthwith he kept his wary eye on the two prospective deliverers, follow ing them closely, watching every chance. Once he almost got close enough to Dr. Wauchope when that gentleman was assisting his wife to mount a box for a better view. The crowd afforded a good shield but just at the instant when Mr. Pickpocket slid his hand toward its goal, Dr. Wau chope stepped upon the box too, and the opportunity was lost But a pickpocket who has "spotted" such prospects does not give up easily. This one followed his around and around until time for dinner. Now, one can always count on a "jamming" and "pushing" crowd at refreshments, and though our esteemed professors would never be guilty of pushing and jamming at such a time, still as guests students forget high officers when it is they had, naturally, to be in the line. They were, consequently, "pushing" and "jamming," for even the best of students forgot high officers when it is a question of "eats." Even now the day might have been saved by Dr. Wauchope. He confesses that while standing irline for refresh ments he noticed a "tall man with a gray overcoat," whom he did not seem to recognize, and as no one except our own students and faculty had invita tions, he wondered just who the strange man could be. His attention was distracted, however, for some rea son, and he gave the matter no more thought. Twas then evidently, that the deadly deed was perpertated, but we shall not implicate that "tall man with the gray overcoat." This pickpocket could not have owned an overcoat, and if he d:d, it was, as we previously intimated, in hock. pocket, containing a bill fold with papers AND MONEY was picked, and Dr. Wauchope's front pocket was relieved of a snap-purse CONTAIN ING MONEY. In the case of Dr. Baker, however, tragedy due to this loss has been some what mitigated, for when the thief had FILCHED ALL THE MONEY from the bill fold he tossed it to the ground, where is was picked up later by a citi zen, who, after examiping the papers, promplty mailed it back to the rightful owner. Dr. Wauchope, we are sorry to say, is inconsolable. And likewise his sophomore English class, for Dr. Wauchope says that he had an English tupence in that purse coined in the early reign of Queen Victoria which he always shows to his sophomore class in English. Dr. Vauchope confides that when he first ntered the grounds he thought of VICKPOCKETS and so transferred No five dollar bills and a one dollar ill to an inside coat pocket, leaving nly the change and the twopence in hie purse in his pants-pocket. 'Dr. Baker said that there was only ne bill missing from the bill-fold rhen it was returned to him, but he eports that the pickpocket took ALL )F JIS MONEY. We are happy o say that the losses icurred are passed over lightly by )r. Baker and Dr. Wauchope, and it trengthens our conviction that COL ,EGE PROFESSORS care little or othing about MONEY.
