MISS LINDSA Y A CTS HOSTESS OF PRESS CLUB Papers by Members on College Topics Draw Forth Much Discussion MUSICA& PROGRAM GIVEN Talented Students Make Evening Enjoyable by Piano and Vocal Solos Members of the Press club met Wednesday night at the home of Miss Elizabeth Lindsay, on College -street. A special musical program was given Miss Margaret All delivered a saxo phone solo, and was accompained by Miss Lizzie Gray Craddock. Piano se lections were given by Messrs. Paul Ritch and Wilbur Zeigler. Two papers, "Do Men or Women Get tMe Most Out of Co-education," and "Are Denominational Colleges Protected from Vice?" were read. Both papers drew forth much criticism especially the first, as it was very muc'i of an attack upon co-education. The co-eds present of course stood for their rights and disagreed with the disserta tion. The second paper declared that although state institutions were con sidered more immoral the fact was that denominational institutions were just as bad. Following the regular program, re freshments of hot chocolate and toast ed cheese crackers, were served. Many of the more talented members gathered around the piano and sang popular songs until a late hour. -BEAT FURMAN - Hallowe'en Party at Rembert House Games, Dancing and Variety of Refreshments Add to Eve ning's Enjoyment Rembert House on Green street, was the scene of a lovely Hallowe'en party last Saturday night. The two front rooms and hall were brightly decorated with everything suggestive of the Hallowe'en season and formed an at tractive setting for the many games and contests of the evening. Each guest was presented with a card on which was a number by which partners were matched. Games, con tests, fortune telling, and dancing were. enjoyed. Apples, peanuts, punch, crackers, and candy were served. Be sides Mrs. Barrentine and the girls who reside at the Rembert House, the following were present: Messrs. F. E. DuBose, R. M. Covington, F. W. Pitts, C. F. Lynn, H. M. Floyd, Ralph Guari no, Sidney Greene, Kenneth Grimsley, "Bud" Baker, J. C. Doggett, J. C. Brock, LaRue Hinson, J. H. Shelton, M. Epps, Janie Morrison, Buster Joy ner, Bob Stoddard, and Melburn Wil liams. - BEAT FURMAN -- Acting President Writes of Pageant Recommends That University Students Attend Presenta tion at the Columbia Theatre "To the Editor of The State: I Cannot refrain from expressing my gratification at the announcement that the historical pageant, "Hail, South Carolina," is to be given in the Columbia theatre. The open-air pre sentation of it, disappointing as It prov eo, revealed the magnitude of the per formance and the great care which had been given to preparation and presen tation I shared with others a sense of intense regret that so tremendous an amount of work, of talent and fine in tent should not have had their full ef.. fect. So this indoors repeat seems a happy arranagement and view of it. I want to voice my admiration of the pageant, and impress its educat'onal value. V. Nielsen In this week's issue of "The New Student," a weekly paper, published in New York, ~and containing the best articles published in college papers throughout the United States, an edi torial entitled, "Are We Civilized," which appeared in the Gamecock on October 19, is reproduced. This editorial was written by J. V. Nielsen, an M. A. student and former associate editor of the Gamecock,also former editor-in-chief of the Carolin'an.
