TENNIS COURTS ON CAMPUS ARE IN GOOD SHAPE MANY STUDENTS PLAY Manager and Captain of Tennia Team Have Not Yet Been Selected Tennis fans at the University found the mimerous tennis courts scattered over the campus in excellent condition upon their return from the summer vacation. During the summer the courts were in almost constant use by Summer School students, and citizens of Colum bia. As a results of this, all of the courts were kept in excellent shape thruout the hot months. The grass has been kept cut and at present the courts are in the best condition they have been in for some time. The manager of the tennis team has not yet been selected, and a captain for this year's team is also to be se lected. There is a wealth of material for the team this year, and great things are expected in this branch of sports. There are twelve tennis courts on the University campus, and there is sel dom a time when a game is not being played on practically every court. More fans are turning out every day, and a number of Juniors and Seniors have elected to play tennis in preference to taking the prescribed physical train ing course. - U.S.C. - UNI VERSITY 'Y' WILL PUT ON A BUDGET DRIVE $1,000,000 TO BE RAISED Bill Boyd to Have Charge Burke, Scott and Able to Head Teams Some friends of the University Y have pledged $200.00 to the Y, provided the Y committee can raise $1,000.00 for the work of the organization on this campus for this year. Johnnie Pate is in charge of the campaign. Bill Body treasurer of the Y, will be chair man of the drive, while Sam Burke, Cecil Scott and Trevor Able, will head teams that will canvass the student body. Professor Bradley has been asked to get up a team to can vass the faculty. Below is the Budget for the Y for the year. Timely Material at Extension Division Free Service Available to All Desiring Special Occasion Material The Bureau of Public Discussion, administered in connection with the University Extension Division, will continue in operation thruout the ses sion 1926-27, during which time mem bers of its staff will take plea..ure in assisting in any way possible club women, teachers, students, and other persons desiring information on topics of current' inte-est. As has been the case formerly, par t'cular emphasis will be placed upon the furnishing of material for special occasions, such as holidays, important birthdays, etc., that are observed in each month. Material is now available for dis tribution on the following special oc casions which occur in October, the only charge being reimbursement of postage. C. New Club Appears On Social Register Athela Is Name of Co-ed Group Which Was Organized Last Year Another sport club has made its ap pearance among the co-eds, and is called the Athela club. This club was chartered last year, but so late in the term that there was time for only a temporary organization. At the re opening of the present term. the club was reorganized with six members. Cabinet Last Sunday Morning The Freshman Y.W.C.A. Banquet will be held Tuesday night at 8:00, in the dining room at the Woman's Build ing. Miss Seabelle Jones, president .3f the Y. W. will act as toast mistress. Miss Mary Say, will give a toast to the Freshmen, and Miss Elizabeth Stackhouse will respond. There will be several speakers of the evening. The members of the cabinet will serve the social committee is composed of Misses Marguerite Johnson, chairman; Lizzie Gary Craddock and Elizabeth Lindsay. Miss Frances Creighton, s2cretary of the Y.W.C.A. introduced the mem bers of the cabinet to the new girls last Sunday morning in the "lobby" at the Woman's Building. As each was introduced, she gave a talk on what she expected to do as a member of the cabinet. The following make up the cabinet: officers; President, Seabelle Jones; vice-president, Catharine Phil lips; treasure, Mary Saye ; under graduate representative, Lillie Garner; soc al, Marguerite Johnson; freshmen, Thelma Lockman; publicity, Elizabeth Phillips and world fellowships; Ida Johnston.
