Dormitories Must Be
Vacated By June 15tr
It is important that all students resi
dent in the University dormitories dur
ing the regular session should have ti
following announcement:
The summer school makes it neces
sary for the dormitories to be read;
for occupancy on June 15th It i:
therefore, necessary for all stideut
to vacate their rooms as early as pos
sible after the close of the exercise
on June 9th. It is expected tha
workmen will enter the dormitorie
Thursday afternoon, the 9th, and Fri
(lay morning, the 11th of June, to pu
them in order for the summer schoc
students.
All students of the regular ses oi
who expect to attend the summer tern
and wish to reserve dormitories, shouh
see the Director of the Summer Schoo
immediately, and make their reserva
tions. This is especially important be
cause certain units of the men's dormi
tories will be assigned to women stu
dents during the summer term. Build
ings already designated for women'.
dormitories for the coming summe
term are Wardlaw and Hurney col
leges. Students desiring to retain foi
the summer, the rooms they now oc.
cupy, should see the Director of the
Summer School, promptly -to ascer.
tain whether this arrangement may be
made.
All student belongings should be
taken out of the dormitories as earlb
as possible after June 9th, as the sum
mtter school cannot be responsible for
the property of students left in the
dormi,ories.
Many of the courses organized for
the coming summer term are so plan
ned that regular students in the Uni
versity may take them and thus ad
vance their credits toward gr.duatioi

In the "Record" of Wednesday
there appeared an ed torial on th

This editorial spoke in high term

After quoting liberally from th,

"You are invited to attend." Ever
stop to thinlo how many of those lines
will be read by friends and relatives of
University graduates this year, and how
many smiles and frowns they will bring?
Aproximately one person in every 230
in this state will receive an invitation
from one of the seniors of the Univer
sity, and of the invitations one-third
wili be leather, and htwo-thirds card
board.
$959.60 was spent for these and it
costs four cents to send them through
the mail, or a total of $158.40 for the
stamps, making a grand total of $1,118
expended altogether.
There are ,93 in the class of 1926, and
the average number of invitations or
dered by each student was 20. Of these
approximately one-third of them are
leather and the rest the regular paper
on1es.
V'ach leather invitation has about 35
square inches of leather on each ex
clusive of the strings. Doubling this.
for both covers, it will total 70 square
inches of leather per invitation, or a
grand total of 86,100 square inches of
leather to make all of them.
For the modern flappers slippers, it
takes only 50 square inches of leather;
thus the amount used in the invitations

Law Junior-Senior
Addressed by Benet
The honorable Christie Benet was
the main speaker at the Junior-Sen
ior banquet of the Law school of the
University of South Carolina, at the
Jefferson hotel Monday n'ght.
Mr. Benet stressed the honor invol
ved in the law profession, saying that
in many cases men trusted lives and
property to the honor of a lawyer.
Harry Cantey, president of the jun
ior class acted as toastmaster and de
Itvered the address of welcome to the
seniors. D. J. Jenkins, president of the
senior class, made the response.
Each member of the faculty of the
law school gave a short talk to the
graduating class.

combined.
How about the number of presents
that will be received; what will be the
batting average?
Our dignified senior strolled into the
canteen and put in an order for 45 in
vitations, but just two of them leather.
"What's the big idea?" lie was asked.
"Oh," was the reply, "One of them is
'for my girl, and the other is for my
aunt-the others are for my father's
friends, lie's a preacher, and they'll ex
,ect one, though they don't even kno.v
'me."
Girls generally ordered about 3 times
as many invitations of both varieties
as the boys however. The boys bought
about 15 and the girls 45. Most of the
boys evidently thought it was unmaniy
to order more.
