Scott were the winners in the Clariosophic so ciety declaiming and debating contests held last Tuesday night. The subject of Mr. Griffin's winning a declamation was "Shall the Statue of Lee Stand in the Hall of Fame?", the declamation with which he won the high c school contest last year. t The four other contestants, chosen from a list of nine in preliminaries Mon day night, were T. R. Finicy, C. O. Bell, n J. W. Johnson and A. R. Godshall. r Messrs. Griffin, Finley, and Johnson It were chosen to represent the society in the inter-socitty contest to be held in the chapel on Friday, May 14. b Debating the repeal of tl.e anti-fra ternity law in this state were Messrs. Wood and Scott on the affirmative and t Messrs. Barbare and Felder on the neg ative. b The decision of the judges was to the l effect that the negative side was the better of' the two but that Mr. Scott was the best individual debater. Sc The judges of the two contests were e John E. Crews, attorney of Columbia; t John J. McMahan, state insurance com missioner, and C. C. Wilson, Columbia a architect. The last meeting of the year wili be p held next Tuesday night and will be in b the nature of a smoker in honor of the bi departing seniors. Miss Dial's play "A Social Success" has a voguish, ultra-modern setting, and presents a social phase that is thought very common now-days, a flapper mother who all but ruins her daughter's chances for love of young men by her anxiety for her "social success."'
