Article I-Members
Section 1-All regular matriculates of
and candidates for degrees in the Uni
versity shall be members of the Student
Body.
Article II-Officers and Elections
Section 1-The officers~of this body
shall be President, Vice-President, Sec
retary and Treasurer: The President to
be the president of the Senior Academic
Class, the Vice-President to be the pres
ident of the Senior Law Class, the Sec
retary and Treasurer to be President of
the Junior Academic Class.
Sec. 2-The Student Body shall have
as a governing board a Student Council
to be composed of thirteen (13) mem
bers, to be constituted as follows:
the President of the four Academic
classes, the Presidents of the three
Law classes, the President of the In
ter-Club Assn., and one (1) from the
Co-Ed Association, and one (1) mem
ber from each of the four literary
societies, such members to be definitely
elected for that purpose.
Sec. 3. Each class shall elect its of
ficers in the spring for the following
year on the day five (5) weeks, next,
preceding Commencement Day, elect
ions to be effective with the opening of
the succeeding session: provided, how
ever, that all classes save the rising
Senior Class, may hold their elections
within two weeks after the day fixed
by this section.
Sec. 4. Each Class shall have the
following officers: President, Vice
President, Secretary and Treasurer,
and Historian.
Sec. 5. The Freshman class shall at
this election elect two (2) of its members
one a co-ed, to be members, of the
Honor Committee. The Freshman
Class shall elect its officers on the sixth
Saturday following matriculation. This
eleetion shall be conducted by the Stu
dent Council, and shall be by secret
ballot.
Sec. 6. The Freshman Law Class
shall elect its officers on the fourth
Saturday following date of matricula
tion. It shall at this time also elect
one (1) of its members to be a mein
ber of the Honor Committee.
Sec. 7. The Inter-Club Association
and the Co-Ed Association shall hold
their elections in the Spring within
two weeks after the day five (5) weeks,
next preceding Commencement Day,
such elections to be effective upon the
opening of the succeeding session.
Sec. 8. The term of office shall be
from the opening of the session thru
the final Commencement Day.
Sec. 9. Within two weeks following
date of matriculation the chairman of
the Student Council shall call a meet
ing of the Council for the purpose of
making nominations for the members
of the Honor Committee. The Coun
cil shall nominate two men and two
co-eds from each of the three upper
Academic classes and two men from
each of the two upper Law classes.
Within a week after the nominations
have been made they shall be announc
ed, and for three days following such
announcement the Student Body at
large shall nominate as many addition
al persons as it sees fit. Within a week
after nominations are closed they shall
be voted upon. There shall be elected
from the aforesaid nominees one man
and one co-ed from each of the three
upper Academic classes and one man
from each of the two upper Law class
es. The members so elected shall
themselves elect a chairman for the
Honor Cod imittee from their number.
Article III - Duties of Officers
Sec. I. It shall be the duty of the
President to preside over all meetings
of the Student Body, to announce the
business before the assembly in the
order in which It Is to be acted upon,
to inferm the assembly when necessary
on points of order or practice pertinent
to pending business. The President
shall call meetings of the Student Body
at such times as h'a deems necessary
without authorization from anyone.
Also, any ten members of the Stu
dent Body upon signing a petition to
the President to call a Student Body
meeting shall have the right to call
such meeting if the President refuses
to do so.
Sec. 2 Tt shall be the duty of the
Vice-President to preside in the ab

sence of the President: in the absence
of both the President and the Vice
President, the duty of presiding shall
devolve upon the Secretary and Treas
urer.
Sec. 3. It shall be the duty of the
Secretary and Treasurer to take and
preserve legible minutes of all Student
Body assemblies, to preserve and dis
pense such funds as may come into his
hands.
Sec. . It shall be the duty of the
Student Council to conduct all neces
sary correspondence relating to the
Student Body or to the interests of
any member thereof. It shall be the
duty of the Student Council to trans
act all business which does not by its
nature necessitate the action of the
Student Body in assembly. It shall be
the duty of the Student Council to con
duct all elections in the Student Body
by secret ballot only nominations for
which elections shall be made in Stu
dent Body assembly, and it shall be
the duty of the Student Council to an
nounce the results of said elections.
Sec. 5. The President of the Stu
dent Body shall be ex officio Chairman
of the Student Council. It shall re
quire a two-thirds majority of the Stu
dent Council to constitute a quorum:
a majority of the quorum present shall
be sufficient to conduct all business.
Sec. 6. The Chairman shall call meet
ings of the Student Council on the first
Wednesday of each school month, and
at all other times that it may be deem
ed advisable.
Article IV -Honor Principle and Or
ganization
Sec. 1 The Student Body takes it
for granted that each student is a
gentleman and a man of honor until he
proves himself otherwise. It is the
duty of each student to report such in
fractions of the Honor Principle as
came to his notice. The duty of judi
cial action upon infractions of the
Honor Principle rests only upon the
Honor Committee.
Sec. 2. The Honor Committee shall
be composed of eleven (11) members,
who shall sit in judgement upon all
breaches reported.
Sec. 3. It shall be necessary for at
least eight members to sit in judgement
upon each case. No person shall in any
way serve as a member of the Honor
Committee unless regularly elected
thereto.
Sec. 4. Upon any trial, a majority
vote plus one of the members assem
bled shall be necessary for conviction.
Sec. 5. Any student convicted shall
have right of appeal to the Student
Body.
Sec. 6. All proceedings shall be con
ducted in secret.
Article V-By-Laws
Sec. 1. The rules contained in Rob
ert's Rules of Order shall govern the
Student Body in all cases where they
are not inconsistent with the Consti
tution and By-Laws of the Student
Body.
Sec. 2. Business may be transacted
by a majority of those present.
Ses. 3. Proposed amendments and
adddtons to the Constitution and By
Laws shall be submitted in writing to
the Student Body assembly and shall
require three readings, no reading
within an interval of three days from
the precedipg reading. The proposed
anmendment may be discussed only af
ter the second and third readings. It
shall require a two-thirds Student
Body vote to carry the third reading.
Sec. 4. The May Queen shall be
elected the second Friday in April, the
coronation to be held during the first
week of May, only Juniors and Sen
for Co-eds shall be eligible for the of
fice of May Queen.
Sec. 5. The cheer leader shall be
elect'ed from the Student Body the
second Truesday in May, his election
to be effective during the succeeding
session.
Sec. 6. This Constitution shall be
published not less than once each year
in The Gamecock, and at a time dur
ing the early part of the first term.
Sec. 7. During the secon;d week in
October of each year the Student Body
shall elect three (3) of its members to
serve with two members of the Fac
ulty, to be elected at the same time, on
the Social Cabinet.
French House to Be
Operated Next Year

A French house, conducted under the
supervision of the department of Rto
mance languages of the University is
being planned for the session 1926-1937.
Rooming and boarding facilities will be
provided for the University students and
their instructors.
To lead in the French social life and
management, the department is counting
on such instructors as Mademoiselle Jul
ienne Mongin and Miss L. V. Knight.
Miss Dillard and Miss White are coop
erating in the plans.
Maison Francaise will be the name of
the place, probably the Rembert house,
and French will be the language. At
tables and at the social hours following
meals, opportunity will be given to im
prove in speaking the language. It is
planned that the chaperones and attend
ants will be French women.
Though the house will only hold 16,
the dining room will hold 30, and this
will give co-eds living in town an opp>r
tunity to benefit by the arrangement.
Preference will be given to students in
advanced French, and some previous
knowledge of the language will be a 'pre
requisite.
Any interested should see Prof. Keith,
or some of the French instructors.
