move fast. Coach Bocock has also bee
trying "Red" in the outfield as a bal
hawk. Bill Rogers has been workint
out around first and is beginning t
show some of the form which carrie
him thru to a good season last year.
The outfield is giving the coach man
sleepless nights. There is plenty o
material and all of it good. The ques
tion is to pick the best. Salley seems t<
be a fixture as he is heady and cat
sock the apple. Marion Swink ha
been shifted from short stop to th
outfield and can certainly cover thi
ground. Swink also has a mean habi
of swatting the pill over the fence a
a critical moment. Shelton and Jir
Farr have both been hitting and cover
ing the ground. Shelton is handicap
ped by a poor throwing arm. : udd;
Milling and Si Seideman have beer
doing some good work and may stet
into a job.
Looks Good
All in all it looks as if the team wil
be. a hard hitting aggregation with
fairly good fielding combination. Th
ability of the pitchers to come thru i
the question. It is up to them as tc
whether or not we have a tip top con
tender for the state championship
Theiri mettle will be tried in the firs
two games with the Paris Island Mar
ines at Paris Island on the 3 and 5 of
April. These Marines are being coach
ed by the famous Joe Jackson and it is
a certainity that they will offer plenty
of opposition to the 1926 Gamecocks
If you want to see what the gang
looks like come out in the stands som<
afternoon this next week and give
them a cheering hand as they pract,
ice, and if you happen to strike one o
the afternoons when they play Stoney's
Biddies you will see a good scrap.

A CORRECTION
In the last week's issue of The
Gamecock appeared a statement in th<
write-up of the freshman Y counci
which was untrue. The article saic

CO-ED CLASSES
IN TOURNAMENT
AT GYMNASIUM
ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON
Four Classes to Compete-Cup
Will Probably Be Awarded
To Wihner in Fray
The next events of interest in the
world of athletics for girls at the Uni
versity will be an indoor co-ed ath
letic tournament which is being held
. next Thursday afternoon at 4:15, in the
, gymnasium.
The season has been somewhat brok
B en into by basketball, and class per
iods are much too short to really ac
complish anything at one meeting, but
t nevertheless great progress has been
t made and the students will be given
an idea of the work that has been go
Sing on.
It is to be conducted in the form of
a class tournament, seniors, juniors,
sophomores, and freshmen contesting
for first place. It is hoped that some -
philantrophic citizen of the state will
be interested enough to present a lov
1 ing cup for this purpose, but if that
L person cannot be found the cup will
probably be forthcoming from some
other source.
The exact program for the tourna
ment has not yet been announced from
the physical education office, but there
will be marching squads, several races,
tumbling, stunts, and probably some
dancing. Judges will award each par
ticipant a score for every feat entered
and will be added to make the class -
score, the class with the highest total
score meriting the cup.
This tourament will be made an an
nual affair and as time goes on, and
the co-eds become more efficient in
turning flips, walking tight ropes, etc.,
much interest will be added and it will
soon become an event much looked
forward to.
On Saturday morning at 10:30 there
will be a meeting of the co-ed Athletic
Association in the chapel to elect man
agers for tennis, track, and baseball.
This will be the formal beginning of _
the outdoor season, but regular prac
tices will not begin until after the
Easter holidays.
Tennis, track, and baseball stars
should begin priming themselves now
for the delightful season out of doors,
because some stars in these three
sports, have not yet come forward in
other things.
