NEW OFFICERS OF "Y.M." TAKE OFFICE SUNDA Y BOYD ASSUMES DUTIES Abel, Scott an'd Pate Are Others Elected-Pate and Scott Swap Jobs The new officers of the "Y" for the coming year will be installed at the usual Sunday night meeting this week. These men will have charge of the "Y" work on the campus for the year 1926 1927. Bill Boyd will succeed C. B. Williams as president. The other officers are Trevor Able, Vice president; Cecil Scott, secretary; and John R. Pate, treasurer. These men have a big job to put over at Carolina and they are expecting the students to back them up and give as sistance in every possible way. The work this year will be conducted under the supervision of various de partments instead of the old system of the "Y" council directing the work. John Pate, as treasurer will have charge of the financial department, whose work will consist of raising the funds oh the campus next year to support the "Y". Edwards Heads One The religious meetings department will be headed by Leslie Edwards. It will be his job to secure the speakers fpr, ue Synday night meetings. Any good speaker that is known the "Y" would like to have his name. Let Ed wards know so lie can get in touch with him. The work of the Freshman Commit tee will consist of making the incoming freshman feel at home--to give him a warm reception, not by the "Palmetto" route. These men will show the new comer around and help him to get started. Bannie Stewart will have charge of this. At the head of the campus service committee, which will have supervision of the visiting of the infirmary, getting up campus directory, supervision of Flinn Hall, and the job of making iself use ful is found Red Swink. Handbook for Warr The job of getting out the handbook and handling the publicity department has been assumed by 0. 1,. Warr and Ray Godshall. The social affairs which were handled so well last year by Johnny Pate have been turned over to his assistant, Sam Ready. I-Ic's the man who will run the banquets, reccltions and teas. The Bible Discussion classes which were so successful last fall will b. under the supervision of Remsen Bauk night. Associated with him wiil be Wesley Riggins who will direct the World Christian Education classes. J. Hearon will have charge of the student conferences and A. O. Kafer will take care of the memblershlip camn paign. Tom Craig, wh'lo has had much exp)e rience at various summer camps, will have charge o,f tile Boys' wvork commit tee. Life Service work wvill i)e under Wal ter Johnson. The Sunday School and Church' attendance committee will work imtder E. W. Youngblood. Sam Burke will again dlirect thle E3m ployment Committee. Burke has Job Al, of these men are picking a corps of assistants to help them in thleir work If any of thlese fields apeal to you go to see the man in charge and he will be only too glad to have you help him. Thue only department not filled at pres ent is that of lie Deputation committee. The leader for thlis has not been selected yet, though there are several men being conlsidered for this important work. The new "Y" officers are extremely anxious that a good crowd come Sun.. (lay night to give the work a good sta'L for the coming year. The speaker for the meeting has not been announced. In addition there wvill he a short talk by Bill Boyd in wvhich lie will tell just what he expects to do and what he wants the students to do. Anyone that has heard Bill speak once needs not be' asked to attend as they will be found in a front seat. It is always a treat to hea: this young man deliver one of his inter esting construciv talk. Deputation Team Is Planning Campaign Invited to Edgefield and Ridge way-Program Already Mapped Out Because of the successful work that has been done in the past few years by the Deputation teams from theUniver sity there have been several applications for teams this spring. Edgefield has requested that a team be sent there to conduct evangelical work over one week end. In addition to that, application has been received from Ridgeway. The "Y" is planning to :end a team to both of these places and has several other places in prospect. The only thing that is lacking is a suitable number of men. Any men who are interested in this sort of "Y" work can find out more about it if they will see R. G. Bell or Sam Burke any morning at the "Y" office. The University is desirous of keeping ip the good work that has been done by these teams and the sooner that the men get their names in the sooner can a better program of activities be worked out. -USC Friendship Theme of Sunday Night Talk Scott and Bell Make Short Talks On the Best Things of Life "Friendship" was the theme of the talk by Cecil Scott at the Sunday night meeting of the Y.M.C.A. He said that he thought this was one of the most important things in the Christian life and that the Bible substantiated his statement, where it said, "Let us be friends in Christ!" Mr. Bell, secretary of the "Y," then made the closing address and talked on the same thought that Scott had. He talked of the help in prayer and the hope for satisfaction in the future life that every one looks forward to whether he has a definite religion or not. -USC Bible Class Makes Religious Surveys Draw Up Plan for Week Day Religious Training in Columbia A survey of the Bible schools in the city of Columbia was made by the class in religious education last year, but this year, the class is preparing to work up a report and draw up a pian that would be the most beneficial and practical for organized Bible study in! Columbia. Five members of the class have been appoimted on a committee to take the papers of the class and front their in vestigationis to wvork out the best platt. Dr. Carpenter wvill assist in the work anid make suggestionts when thtey are to be necededl, but the alan is to let thte stu denlts themselves wvork out the main is sue. -USC Randolph-Macon is the only college it thte South that allows the coach to appoint captains.-Exchange. University of Akron faculty is con. ducting a campaign to abolish the num erous low grade honorary societies on its campus and is endeavoring to se cure a chapter of Phi Beta Kappa. Groups of students of the Univer sity of Minnesota had to sign a bond pledging themselves to silence and re sponsibility for all damage done before they were allowed to enter a Minneap olis theatre. Smoking among college women has become such a well-established custom at Barnard College that rules for the purpose of adjusting instead of pro hibiting it are being considered by the college authorities. The rules on how, when, and where to smoke are design ed to guide college girls in the delica cies of the art and to prevent any de sires to experiment with cigars and pipes. A super-library, a book tower no less than one hundred and ninety-two feet high and eighty-five feet square is to rest within two years on the campus of Yale. It will cost $6,000,000, and will house eventually 5,000,000 volumes. The new library is to be known as the Sterlin Memorial Library, "the largest and best planned in the world," and will admit two thousand readers at a time.-Gonzaga Bulletin. Asked why they came to college 100 Oklahoma University co-eds said they came to get an education; 15 came be cause the home town was too dead in the winter; 26 came to enlarge their circle of friends; 22 came to learn the 'Charleston" and to have a good time. We must compliment the University women; 63 truthful women out of a group of 163 is certainly an average to be proud of.
