Y.M. AND Y.W.
PLAN CARNIVAL
FOR MARCH 19
TO CHARGE ADMISSION
Present Scenes of Carbarets in
Gay Paree, With Girls in
Fancy Array
On March 19, the Y.M.C.A. and the
Y.W.C.A. are planning to pull a new
stunt on the University students and
introduce them to- a real carnival.
Everyone will come dressed as for a
"tacky party" and one is advised to
begin now planning the most freakish
costume imaginable. There will be a
small admission fee and once on the
inside, so much frolicing and excite
ment that the student will be carried
away into the spirit of the old familiar
carnival and will think he has hardly
turned aiound before it is over and the
curtain is pulled.
The big event of the evening will be
a cabaret scene in gay Paree with the
gorgeously dressed madamoiselles and
handsome men supping wine and
whispering sweet nothings at the mar
ble topped tables while coquettish wait
resses flit among them with trays of
lowers, candy and sweets for sale.
There will be the enticing music of a
band behind the palms and a number
of professional entertainers for the
cabaret guests. There it will be be
ore one's very eyes the gay scenes,
right lights, beautiful women ana
ashing men so often heard of but
never witnessed.
To make it a carnival in truth ther'!
will be numbers of booths, peanuts, ice
cream candy and balloon venders con
tinually crying aloud above the din, the
nierits of their wares.
According to plans this is going to
one of the most enjoyable affairs of
he whole college year. The proceeds
roni it will go to the Friendship Fund.
The Y.W. and Y.M. workers are al
ready carring out their plans and both
the boys and girls are urged to give
heir hearty support in body and in
sgirit to make it the big success it can
asily be with their aid.

SYDNEY PARK CHOIR
hapel Was Full--Only Few Seats
Unfilled-Got Good
R4esponse
The choir of the Sydney-Park Meth
idist church, African, furnished a most
inique and attractive program for the
All University" Service Sunday night
n the University chapel. For the
econd time this year the chapel was
illed, in the way that it ought to be
illed for a meeting of this kind. The
)nly seats available were a few in the
ront rows while there were a number
;tanding in the rear of the balcony.
The program was divided into parts,
he first part consisting of a series of
nthems which had been used by the
:hoir in their own church services.
During the intermission, some an
iouncements were made about the
>rogram for the spring.
The second part of the program con
;isted' of the great spirituals sung in
he way that only the makers of this
treat form of music can sing them.
ionie of the old favorites were "Ain't
toner study War no more," "Can't
hcar nobody pray," "Standing in the
iced of prayer," and "Glory." At the
:lose of the service, the choir was en
:ored so they sang "Swing Low Sweet
Chario," and then the meeting was
adjourned by the entire audience sing
ing a hymn together lead by the choir.
The choir is trained by B. L. Smith
who is a negro business man in Co
lumbia. His wife was the mezzo so
prano and did most of the lead work
and solo parts. The star of the choir
however was the piano player. He was
a small slim youth but the way he made
a piano talk was a caution. He seemed
to ooze music from his fingers and his
toes, and used his entire body to put
the expression into his playing that
he wanted.
Having the choir at this time was
peculiarly appropriate as the last study
in the World Christian Educattion
:lass was on race relationship.
