BIRDS PRIMED FOR FRAY
Colonels Have Strong Aggrega
tion-Hard Struggle Ex
pected-Band To Be Out
Caroina plays the last game of the
Gamecock season here tomorrow and has
for an opponent the famous Centre Col
lege "Praying Colonels." The Birds
have had an in and out season, but in it
they have been successful. They are
determined that tomorrow they will dem
onstrate, if they can, the best football
they -have played this year.
Many of the Carolina players will
wind up their career with this important
contest. Captain Long has played his
three years with the Gamecocks at tackle,
Marion Swink will be seen here for the
last time as a varsity end. Jeffords and
Wright will appear for the last time in
the backfield. Mills and Gunter, guards,
have played three years, and Pruitt will
graduate in the law school this spring.
Plays Last Game
Centre, also, will have several playing
their last game, whose loss will be keen
ly felt, although the Colonels will draw
new and strong blood from a star fresh
man team this year. Captain Skidmore,
two times mentioned for all-Southern
tackle, will make his final bow to the
college football world, as will Raben
stein, three times named as all-Southern
halfback and once chosen as all-Amer
ican by some critics.
Besides being the last game of the year
between college teams in Columbia and
besides the opportunity to see two pow
erful teams fight, the contest wiil still be
important since it will be a point of com
parison between Carolina and other
teams of the South which Centre has
Played. The Kentuckians have a po'wer
ful organization which, although it has
been badly beaten several times this sea
son, has always shown fight and deter
mination, returning to battle in all its
fury.
Colorful Affair
A brillian game is the prospect. Both
teams wi'il open ip, and use everything
they can muster. The stands promise to
be well-filled and the weather is due to
be clear. Prof. Olesen's band will be
there and 1000 students cheering their
favorites of the Garnet and Black in
their last battle of a wonderful season.
The line-ups of the two teams will
probably be as foliows:

CO-EDS SEE WINTHROP
HOCKEY TOURNAMENT
Twenty-Five Make Trip to Rock
Hill-Arrive Late Because
of Motor Trouble
Twenty-five co-eds made the trip to
Rock Hill Wednesday, to witness the
Winthrop Hookey Trournamenit. Due to
an unavoidable ddiay of the arrival, the
plans of the visitors and the hostesses
went astray.
At the appointed hour the co-eds were
awvaited by class presidents, committees
and the orchestra. But no co-eds were
to be seen. After a delay of half an
hour the game was called.
Th'le front campus was deserted when
the pullets arrived after awaiting repairs
to the bus in which they ma~de the trip.
Their arrival on the athletic field was a
signal for a general rush by the Win
throp gith~ who divided the co-eds
among them.
During the trip to Rock Hill the co-eds
planned - songs and yells to announce
their arrival.

CENTRE'S PRAYING Colonels are to
try to stem the fighting Gamecock
tomorrow. It's certain that more
than prayers will be needed to take
the final game of the season.
SOMEHOW THE NAME Centre re
calls many things: the fame of a
school that astonished the country
by smothering the Crimson of Har
var,i and suddenly shot .a galaxy of
stars into the football firmament.
REMEMBER, too, the day when the
Birds' journey to the haunt of the
Colonels for Thanksgiving day, and
came home with the smaller end of
a 42 to 0 score.
BUT IF OUR MEMORY does not fail
they furnished plenty of opposition
before those forty-two points were
amassed. Time after time the line
pushed back the drives of the Ken
tuckians. But the bewildering and
famed aerial battle of the Hillsmen
was too much.
MOST OF THE students remember the
time when Gene Baker hid under
the baggage when the train pulled
out of Columbia. Yes, "Rabbit" got
into the fracas-and, gave good ac
count of himself.
IN THESE DAYS the lads from Centre
College have not amassed the string
of victories of former yearss But no
one can truthfully say that they hav
en't as scrappy a team as they ever
put on the fie+ld.
TOMORROW MORE THAN one Bird
will sing his swan song. They'll be
wearing the Garnet and Black for
the last time. It's a great moment
in any mail's life. This covey of
Gamecocks have acquitted themselves
well.
COACH BOCOCK will put aside the
cleated shoes tomorrow, his first year
as football .coach at Carolina. He
has had a good season, his team has
shown up, wd!l in every game. Be
sides his skill on the field, Bocock
has shown himself a man of prin
ciples, and his work this year has
merited the praise of other coaches
in the state.
FOR THE FRESHMEN who complet
ed their season yesterday a wvord of
praise is due. The defeat adminis
teredl them by the Furman rats wvas
a bad dose, of course, but the yearl
ings showed that they have plenty of
fight. They kept mat.ters warm for
four quarters of the game.
IN OUR EYES there seems to be sonme
fine material for varsity positions
on next year's team. There will'>
a lot of ripening needed but the stuff
seems to be there.
T H A NKSGIVINJG HAS come and gone
-King Football soon leaves his
throne for another year. With him
goes the GRIDIRON INKPOT.!
Next wveek shall hiati his successor,
BETWEE~N BASKETrS, p)rince of
the cage season.

Biddies Lose
Championship
In Hard Game
FURMAN'S SLATE IS CLEAN
Blocked Punt Gives Furman An
other Touchdown in the
Final Period
The Caroina Biddies played Furman
for the Freshman Championship, of the
State yesterday afternoon but lost the
game after a hard struggle. 13 to 6.
The loss of this game gives the Fur
man rats a clean slate and undisputed
sway over the Palmetto realm and adds
to the Biddies record their only defeat
of the season.
Furman's first touchdown followed
close upon the heels of a recovery of
Cooper's fumble on his 20 yard line by
a Purple and White player in the first
quarter. Furman made a first down with
the aid of a penalty and another by a
pass, putting the ova', on the nine inch
line. Blount dove over for the touchdown
and Davis kicked the extra point.
Biddies Stage Drive
In the third period the Biddies began
a drive at midfield which carried the
ball to the Furman one yard line at the
beginning of the fourth. On the first
play of the fourth quarter Carolina fum
bled but Windus recovered and fell across
the goal line. Stewart failed to add the
point. In the drive down the field the
plunging of Magii?, Griffin and Rogers
fgt:red greatly.
Carolina's line was holding the Bap
tists to a standstill, but on his own 37
yard line Rogers kicked the ball which
was blocked, rebounding high into the
air and over the goal line. It was recov
ered by Fairley. but the try for extra
point failed.
Furman's A Powerful Backfield
Furman was touted to have a powerful
team and so they did. The backfieid was
full of drive and showed a versatile
attack. The line was no stronger than
that of the Garnet and Black and was,
at times outplayed.
Captain Fulmer shone brightest among
the young Gamecock forwards and up
set Furman drives from tackle to tackle.
Guarino (lid more than his share as did
also Wolfe and Keels. Windus figured
in many of the Biddies' gains.
Rogers played a consistent game in
the backfield with Cooper and Stack
house lending valuable aid.
Furman's backfild was an all-star one
and the line had a stellar player in Lem
mond.
