Y.M.C.A. NEWS "Y" INAUGURATES NEW OFFICERS. "We, the cabinet, are going to try to be good sports next year," said C. B. Williams in his inagural talk Sun day night, "We are going to endeavor to draw the campus closer together and create a better 1spirit." Mr. Meeks, the retiring president reviewed the work done by the "Y" last year and expressed appreciation for the cooperation he had received. Mr. Williams particularly outlined the work for next year and discussed a few of the possibilities. The inaguration of the officers took the place of the regular Sunday night meeting. Mr. Bell administered the oath of office. The "Y" has selected the cabinet members for the work for the com ing year, and announces them below. Looking over the list it is apparent that a great deal of care has been exercised in selecting the men, not only from the standpoint of picking men who are leaders on the campus, but to see also that the many various groups and parts of the campus are represented in a campus wide move ment like the "Y" is. The two law classes, and the two upper classes in the academic class are represented. The football team, and the baseball team and both literary societies have their share. Three of Carolina's social clubs also have members. The mem bers of the cabinet live in the fol lowing places: Pinkney, Rutledge, Woodrow, Wardlaw and Thornwell. Gressette, F., Vocational Guidance. D. R. Joye, editor of the Y. M. C. A. handbook announces that work will be begun today to get advertising for "The Freshman Bible" as it is known in some circles. Work is also being pushed to edit all the copy to be print ed in the book. - U.s.c. - Challenge To Clemson. Mr. Barton W. Freeland, Clemson College Y. M. C. A. Dear Mr. Barton: The University of South Carolina challenges Clemson College to match every "Rooster" with a Tiger of equal enthusiasm, at the Blue Ridge Confer ence. Harold Delorme, President Student Body. - U.S.c. --- JOHN RUTLEDGE CLUB MEETS. The regular meeting of the John Rutledge Law Club wvas held Monday night, March 30th, 1925. The business in order was brought up before the members and dispensed with. Follow ing this the meeting entered into a ses sion of "court." A very interesting ease was on docket, and Messrs. Bas kin and Peoples represented the Res pondent with Messrs. Moss and Crouch for the Appellants. The case was con cerned wvith a well being dlug by a certain pat ty, and the water being used for domestic and bathing pool purpo ses. Johnson's men started the scoring in the first when Moore's first hit sent a man scurrying over the plate, but that was'before Carolina's half of the inning. The Gamecocks being materi ally aided by shaky work in the P. C. infield scored five runs on three hits winning the game. It was the fifth inning when the visitors awoke again and managed to get another lone run by and in the same frame that Caro lina retaliated with three new ones. But the Bluestockings were not satis fied and turned in one more tally in the following upon which their op ponents felt constrained to add five more before calling it a day. In the last inning old Babe Adams capped the climax and added a fitting finish to the game by striking out the last three men to face him. A. Wilson, Tally Elliott, Billy Coleman, Raymond Gaston, Ham Beattie, and Calhoun Thomas, Mana ger. The Gamecocks have played two matches already this year, winning from Furman and losing to Wofford. The Carolina team boasts of a strong combination of players and hopes to go far in conquest of the state cham pionship this year. The tennis team of the University of South Carolina, proudly floating the Garnet and Black, won from the tennis team of Furman Univ. in four out of five events last Friday after noon. This was the first match of the season for the Gamecocks, and a good sized crowd was out to watch the play. The Carolina storm center was P. A. Wilson, who exhibited the best play of the afternoon. He seemed to be everywhere over the court at once, and often he advanced to the net to whip over a ferocious drive. His points when they seemed almost im possible. In his singles match with Hewell he exhibited his best play, and caie from behind to win, 6-4,*6-3. In the other singles matches Tally Elliott was matched against Connor. Playing a hard fighting game he won his match, 6-3, 6-2. Billy Coleman went up against the lanky Chapman, and accordingly proved a cross- word puzzle to the Furmanite whom he beat 6-2, 6-1. The doubles began with Wilson and Elliott, numbers one and two respec tively on Carolina's ranking list, fac ing the State Collegiate doubles cham pions of last year, Hewell and Connor. After the champions had won the first battle the Gamecock pair came back in great style to win the next two sets and the match, 6-8, 8-6, 6-3. Billy Coleman and Raymond Gaston faced Chapman and Carr of Furman in the final event of the afternoon. The Carolina boys won the first set, only to lose out in a hard fought struggle 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.'
