The game was played before a crowd f something over 12,000 people the lar est to ever witness a Tiger-Gamecock crap. The bands of both institutions were in the stands and between'halves he student bodies of each had a snake ance on the field. It would be difficult to pick out the tars of the game. Boatwright and Ed unds naturally take the laurels. Wil iams Boyd played an exceptionally good ame and when late in the final period as taken out strenuously objected and ad to be taken off by force. The past week in South Carolina foot ball circles presented some very interest ing contests. The local color was ap plied more to the week's offerings than those of previous weeks in that therc were more inter-state oontests. Twc South Carolina teams tried odds against Georgia warrirs but were Imable, tc turn them back with defeats. Starting in order of games played and at the same time with a battle that aroused interest from one end of the state to the other the Newberry Indians keeping up the great work they have been showing this season marched to a 14 to 0 triumph over the Citadel Bull Cods. This game was played as a fea ture of the "big day'- at the Pee Dee fair in Florence. The Citadel fought back with mighty vim but with a line up shot to pieces by men on the disa bility list the Cadets could not repel the drive of the Indians. Teddy Weeks played part of the game but was taken out twice when hurt. Three other stars were not in the game at all.' However, Newberry's team, as demonstrated be fore this tilt has been shown as one of the best that has been put out there in many years and one that is ranking high in football realms in South Carolina this year. Two more games of notable importance were played on Friday. Right here at home the University of South Carolina defeated the game and fighting Blue Stockings of Presbyterians College, 29, to 0 The Johnson proteges, living up to the reputation, put up a gallant fight in the face of the odds-the mighty driving power of the Birds. The Pres byterians' offense would not shatter Carolina's line and their line sumply crumpled before Brice, Jazz and others after holding the Garnet and Black4 scoreless in the first period and to 9 to 0 score in the first half. The other big game Friday was that Sbetween Wof ford and Oglethrope. This game was played at Augusta, before such dignitaries as Governor McLeod of South Carolina, wearing the colors of Furman, Gover nor Walker of Georgia, naturally hav ing his lapel adorned with the red and black of Georgia, Ty Cobb, and others. The Hurricane put up a better fight than it did against Mercer the previous week and held the Bull Dogs to a 2 to 0 count in the first half, the safety being regis tered in the first,minute of play. How ever, the tenacity of the Bull Dog was too much for Billy Laval's boys and the final figures read Georgia 23, Furman 0. THIS WEEK'S BILL. This fs the biggest and best week that South Carolina football has ever had and it will he hard to beat it. Wednesday Furman and Davidson clash at the state fair in a game that promises to be full of A-1 football. Thursday at noon, at the fair grounds -but what's the use to waste valuable space when everybody knows all about that big classic between Carolina and Clemson at the fair. Friday at Spartanburg Wofford meets Erskinc and on the same day Clinton,. Presbyterian takes on Newberry. Playing two games in one week Fur n:an goes to Charleston Saturday to help the Citadel to celebrate its home coming day and a big crowd is expected t-> see what looks to be another hectic battle. In fact the whole week's bill in Columbia and in the state looks to be an all-star bill. In addition to the college games at the fair there will be two high school games with Hyatt Park and Batesburg Leesville furnishing the entertainment Tuesday afternoon and Columbia aned Springfield on Thursday afternoon at 3 :30 after the C. C. classic. And as an added attraction the fresh men teams of the Universities of South and North Carolina meet on University field Saturday afternoon. )CK
