The state line averaged 15 pounds ire than Carolina's but were unable stop the plunges of Jazz, Brice and -nnlell or the swveeping runs of Rogers, -hnston, Wright, Bloatwright etp, FEAT STATE GAME 10 TO 0 CAROLINA REPRESENTED IN STATE TENNIS MEET The University of South Carolina will be well represented in the annual State Tennis TournAment which opens in Char leston tomorrow. The University men will play under the banner of Ridge wood Club of Columbia. In the past Ridgewood has put out tennis teams ranking with the best in the State. Tennis has continued to gain interest in South Carolina and large galleries are expected to witness the matches in Char leston. The representatives from Caro lina include Dr. Reed Smith and Pro fessor Perry M. Teeple, both of whom have participated in numerous state and local tournaments under the Ridgewood colors.. Other representatives of the University are Tally Elliott, president of the University Tennis Club, P. A. Wilson, representative of Carolina in the last Inter-collegiate tournament, and "Billy' Nelson, known as the little iron man. The city and campus will watch the oitcome of the tournament with interest and we are pulling hard for Ridgewood. -U.S.C. EVERYONE was pleased with the showing made against N. C. State, the Gamecocks displayed a drive, erastality an( pep which has not been seen on University Field these many years. Metz ger has a real team this year. BILL BOYD, former Frosh Captain, covered himself with glory and earned a place for himself in Carolina's Hall of Fame when he twice saved the day by outrunning Shuford who had inter cepted a pass and was headed for a touchdown. . The proud old bird-the Gamecock of the University of South Carolina came through with the game with North Carolina State last Saturday with honor and dignity not only to himself but to the football fraternity of South Caro lina and to the state in general. Of the different gridiron contests 'last week between teams of South Carolina and of other states, Carolina was the only one able to ring up a victory. And it was a deserved victory, for the Birds outplayed the Wolfpack, a team much heavier than the Gamecocks, but the attentici of the reader is invited to the first syllable of the of the Carolina team's nickname.
