The University, thru the Extcn
sion Department has been getting into
closer touch with the High Schools
of the State. Congressman McSwain
right well said, "The University is
the Capstone of Education within
the State." Every icnmber ( f our
faculty and student body knows that
this is true, and all have been work
ing to realize it. The Extension Divi
sion has be-n working with the Hligh
Schools for a numberl. of Years. It
was thru this division that the pres
ent High School League was fornied
several yeari ago. At first the divi
sioin handled all of the ditails, but
today the League has complete charge,
anild the division merely acts as an
ssistant.
During the past year the Gamecock
has bten sent to ever two hundred
Hligh Schools free of charge. Earl ier
in the yeari an entire section was
given over to the iligh School news,
but later it was found best to (is
coitiniue this policy. Altho we no
iliger carry a spucial section for the
Iligh Schools we would- like to hear
from then.
Tonight a copy of this issue will
be given to evei-y student present
at the banIet. We urge that you

Piut this hiolidiiy has bieent termedoo
thle Caurolina spring holiday. We say
.that Is a iisnoimer biec-ause we have
no spiring holiday. Here at Carolina
we have a great imaiiy oine (lay holi-1
dlays. They are long enough to catch
a bireathi and that Is all. The other
schools of the State have from four
to eight-day holidays at someo tinie
duringe the snrIng. We do not want
to be greedy and ask for too much,
but wouldn't It be fine if these sepa
rate days could be passed up and
one whole week be given at one
time? It would be treating all with
ifairness, and everybody then could
go home and not only those who live
nearby. At this time of the year
those of us who have actually been
working during the year are a bit
run down and tired. A rest of several
days would come in handy at this
period. The exams are to begin in
a little over a month from now. A
ie.,t period of a week would help
many to catch up with that back
work and then begin the home stretch
1cr the exams.
Thus a suggestion is being made
that some offlcial, one who passes on
the holidays, would do well to look
into this matter. If he should rkport
favorable we are sure he will win
the student vote as the most popular
.aculty member.

CAROLINA BEAUTY
Albout the visage of the U. S. C.
thei-e is a brightiless and a glory that
is ennobling and puriying. The han
of man is evident in th2 buildings
and the walks and the lesser tools
of the whole equipment; but Time has
ilparted a dignity and a classicism
which can come only with the passage
of the ycars.
