Two "Big Boys" Fall Before Dollar Lure Sparkman Swindles Mathe De Partment-Hankins the De bating Council COMMITTEE INVESTIGATES Hankins Used Money to Buy Night Shirts and Hoyt's Co logne-Sprrkman Gets Pajamas and Mon ocles Who could believe that an ex-presi dent of the student body, a man of such accomplished touches of devotion and sarcasm, plus those technical peculiar ities attached to math profs, would ever fall hefore the mighty dollar? And who would think that the mighty Hankins with all his childish pranks, harmonicas, aind night shirts, would be come the victim of a woman's persuas ion? Upon making the debating team to Florida Hankins goes to the headquar ters of the debating council where he obtains a check from Prof. Olson for $100.00 which check he raises to $1000. 00 by the process of adding a "zero" 'o the specified amount, and by bribing Prof. Abrams into usi-ng a well prepar ed chemical irocess to remove the writ ing on the check so that the words "one thousand" could he inserted instead Fearing that his handwriting might he recognized Hiankins also bribed Anna Swindell into writiog the "one thous and" so as to make more certain of his attempt at swindling the council. We understand that Hankins ordered NIiss Swinidell a wedding dress for her kind services. (She says that due to the fact that she is a married woman she will not need the dress but will accept it as a matter of courtesy.) At the same time Sparkma,i firisked the math departiment out of $500.00 1un der the pretext cof suipplyiig same de partiment with up-to-date instruments for the purpose of assisting the co)-eds inl extracting "cube roots." When the money had been secured the above inamied gentlemen proceded to go to '\ imiui;ghs Department Store where Hankins purchased three dozen night shirts and six quarts of Illy't cologne.
