FOR ST
Citadel and Newberi
Near
Carolina Fresh 47, Citadel Fresh 16.
As the sports editor of the News and
Courier says, "one of the most decisive
defeats ever admionistered a Citadel
basketball team." The Citadel had no
alibis to offer, the Chicks were just all
over them, outplaying them in every
departmcnt of the game, their well oiled
smooth working machine going over
the young Cadets like a steam roller.
Only at one time was the Citadel team
within sight of victory, early in the
first period, when there was only three
points separating the two scores.
Wise & Co. however, soon got busy
and by the end of the period had rung
up 26 points 4o the Candy Cadets' six.
Wise was the individual star of the
game, .playing a wonderful game at
center and accounting for 25 points of
the team's score. However he was giv
en unusually fine backing, the passing
working wonderfully and every main
using the hesot of team work.
Citadel only scored four field has
kets, two by the unexcelled Teddy
Weeks, who put tip a great game against
heavy odds. The floor work of Rogers
was about ,the best ever seen in Char
lestoii. Buck Shillito putt tupu a gio
game at guard for the Cadets. There
is difficulty inl pointing out -he hiddies'
star as such a victory would have been
impossible without the sterling work
and cooperatiin of every member of the
team.
The t4hlieavy score belies the fact
that the game was ,not only fast and
furious --hroluglu'lt bit als( spc0acul
lar at times. The following line ip
and siuimary gives one a comprelien
sive bird's eye of the game:
