GRADUATES OF LAST YEAR
HAVE PLEASANT RE-UNION
The first ieeting of the Cass of '23
was held ill Flinn Hall Saturday night.
November 1, with twenty menihers pr
sent. This is the first of this kind of
meetings that have been held by a.nly
class graduating fion the University in
recent years. It speaks well of the cla'..
and that the members are determined
to ke.ep organized. This class. heing les
than a Year out of college. will cointinue
its existence as a permanent organiza
tion under plans agreed ti) at the nieeting
last Saturday night.
The meeting was oppened with the
invocation by Mr. Fant IKelly N. Mr. S.
T. Sparkman. president of the class, act
ed as toastmaster.
As the cause of meeting was for the
puirpose of electing a permanent class
secretary this was the first matter dis
cussed. Nir. R. Mf. Ihope of Lo,ckhart
and at present Aluini Secretarv was
elected secretary.

The first volume is to be published ten
years from date to he fol)lowed hW an
other teln years later and so on.
A very interesting contest was held
much to the amusement of all those pre
sent. Mr. Bell was called on for a few
words an( just as lie c(nclIcllde( all were
asked to gues.s the niumbers of hairs on
R. G's head. R. R. Williams won the
priz.e Barney Google's horse. He con
cluded that there were about 62740 hairs
and the estimate was 66150.
Mr. Hope is to be head of the execl
tive committee With S. T. Sparkman of
Columbia and Claude Sherrill of Cheraw
as the other members.

comes to the aid of the poor Freshman
Monday night at 7 :30 Mr. S. wandered
into the chapel to see the cause of the
disturbance. The "ratqs" were in session.
Each member was bent on electing him
self-therefore the uproar. Mr. J. C.
Long who was presiding decided to go
back to something safe like football. Re
membering the foot of Mr S. inc the
Election last year he turned the meet
ing over to S. Forthwith was elected
"Red" smith, one of our promising play
ers of .the Freshman foot ball team. Mr.
Smith adjourned the meet ing amid a
shower of applause (?)

At a meeting of the student body last
week Mr. D. W. Spencer asked the stu
dents to accept his resignation from the
office of Editor-in-chief of the '24 GAR
NFT AND BLACK. Mr. Spencer said that
he hated to throw dow- n the honor the
students had bestowed tupont him but his
eyes were giving him trouble and ani eye
specialist tip north had stronigly advised
him to giv-e tip all otutside work.

is now president of the Clariosophie Lit
erary Society. He has been a regular
contribtutor to the CAROLINIAN and every
month a short-story or poem appears in
that magazine written by him. He wvill
edit an annual worthy of this instittu
tion, althio, it is rather difficult to as
stume the dtuties of this office at such a
late dtate.
