Y. M. C. A. NEWS CHURCHES TO GIVE SOCIALS On Friday evening at 8:00 p. in. several of the churches of Columbia are going to give socials in honor of the students of the University. Tht2 attairs are intended to bring the people of the city and the stu dents into better friendship with each other. They were first given last year. but the students did not attend as they should. This year the committee hopes that every stu dent will go to the church of his denomination and meet the folkq of his church. The following churches are giving socials: Washington Street Nlethodist, on cornei' of Washington and Alarion; The First Baptist, around the corner fron the City Y. "M. C. A.; the First Presbyterian with Arsenal Hill and the A. R. P., at the First Church, Zorner Lady and Marion; all Luthe ran churches at Friendship Hall over Bruns and Little Drug Store. -- Y.M.C.A. - STUDENT ATTENDANCE AT SUNDAY SCHOOL Last Sunday the approximate num ber of University students that at tended Sunday Schools and Bible Classes in the city was around 200. Several churches sent cars to the campus to carry the boys to church; some returned without a full load. This should not be. There are over 400 boys rooming on the campus. That means that only half of them feel able to get up early enough oi Sunday morning to ride to Sunday School. If you haven't been going to a Bible Class you do not know what you are missing. lost of the churches have classes for young men and some have theim for Carolina stu dents exclusively. The students have had pamphlets distributed to them giving detailed accounts of the money spent by the Y. M. C. A. last year and the budget for the coming season. The total amount needed is $1.80-I.00. The expected receipts are $918.55. This leaves to be collected froin the students the amount of $x85.'l5. This amount may seem very large to SOmeI( of uts, but if we would just consider Iow Iuch we Spend o useless things we Would not tlink that this sum is too much for this kind of work. It is needless to enumerate the things which the "Y" does on the ca IIIpu. We cannot afford to hold back this organization by not giving it moncy, which is a necessary thing to run on. - j-.MC.A.7 B. D. G. Last Friday night Bible Discus sion Groups were organized in most of the tenements. By tonight it is hoped that there will be one in eviy tenement. Attendance will b)e counted from tonight and any stuleit who misses the first meet ing will not be eligible for the "Iced" or social at the end of tie termil. Do not forget about the3e groups tonight, but be on hai and try fo make your class win, for all b-ma flde members of the winning class are eligible. The winning class loe not necessarily have to be a large one. as the points will be given on a proportion basis. A solo was rendered by Miss Price of Chicora College. The pianist was Fred Parker, whom all th. older mien know as one of the fin men who finished in '22. We are glad to nave Fred around the campus agaiii. The first student to speak was 13. Rhanie, an active worker in the Y. \l. C. Gene Baker was the next informal ;peaker. He emphasized the need of loing personal work. Be a friend; ;yipathize with other boys and try o help them when they are in trou ile; don't scold them.
