CAROLINA STUD'%I's
AT LUNCEJN
Columbia is coming round. A little
more tinte and the entire city will be
squarely behind the University. This
is provenl by the luncheon given by
the Kiwanis Club of Columbia Tues
day night at the Jefferson Hotel in
honor of the leaders of student activi
ties at Carolina. It was "University
Night" indeed, with every phase of
the life of the University representel,
and proved a most pleasant and inspir
ing affair that was greatly enjoyed by
all attending.
No party is complete unless ladies
are present. The Kiwanians did not
overlook the Co-eds. They occupied
seats of honor on each side of the
officers of the club. But it was not
Co-ed night alone. The members of
the football squad were there as well
as the heads of the various student
organizations.
Mr. G. T. Pressley, president of the
Kiwanis Club, escorted the young la
dies in and they were the recipient of
much applause. Far more than did
the male students receive, but this
does not mean that the ien did not
comie in for their share of applause.
The Kiwanians receive visitors with
the greatest enthusiasm possible. It
was more than enthusiasm Iuesday
night. It was a great spirit of brother
ly love that they have for our institu
tionl, and their appreciation of having
it here ill their mlidst.
The presidenlt, Mr. Pressley, spoke
of the pleasure it afforded the Kiwanis
ClA11 to have as it guests members of
the University family. Last year
seventeen scholarships were be
stowed uponl the University by the
members of the club. ''lese scholar
ships were to be awarded to young
men thruout the State by the Pacult11y
of the Institution. The seveliteei
beneficiaries of the K,iwanlian (l)
were presented to the (lu). As each
holder of a scholarship was intro
diuced tle donor of tihe respective
scholarship a rose, and all were
greeted with applatuse.
The University (Tlee (lub uner the
direction of Mr. Maurice M attesonl,
rendered a number of songs. The
elibryonlic orchestra next. remlered
several select i'ms. Mr. Pattto, the
champion saw player of South Caro
lina, entertained tle club1) with sevetal
catchy hits.
Mr. A. C. Plora, a member of tihe
program111 comimittie, spoke of Ihe in
terest the Kiwanialns take in the ITni
versity, and of the great amtoount of
interest that he iniversiy held for him
heause of tle hundred of Cohumobia
high school studlents aIttending thire.
At the conclision of his reimarks lie
presented Dr. W. 1). Meltson, presidenlt
of the University. I)r. Meltoni spoke
