SWIMMERS TO PERFORM Interest up in Approaching Meet It will be of interest that the swim ming team which has been hard at work for the last several weeks is expecting to compete with Clemson here withir the next few days. Details have not a yet been worked out as arrangements have not been definitely closed. In thc event, however, that this meet doe! not materialize, the student body will have an opportunity to see their team it action next Wednesday night in a coni petitive match between the individual members. The match will be held in th( Pacific pool at eight-thirty. Becaust a match of this kind is such a rarit) not only to students but to Columbiam as well, it is a fore-gone conclusion tha it will be well attended. Coach Crawford has been untiring it his efforts to perfect the men in botl swimming and diving, and his effort! have not been unavailing, because th< squad as a whole has developed consid. erably. Although unable to touch Capt Albert Ambs' records in the twenty anc forty-yard swims, there are several met -Roddey, Waite, Mazyck, and Black who are closely bunched behind him, anc other members are pushing these to theii utmost. Especially does Coach Crawfor( deserve credit for the way he has whip ped a corps of fancy divers into shape and seeing these men perform is a trea worth much. The (livers, McLean, Maz yck, Coker, Black and Waite hav< worked hard under the coach's direction and not only are securing good form ot their (lives, but also are adding variou! (lives to their repetoire. For plunging the team will depend either on Humphrie: or Dickert to make the longest splash and for the distance swims Shand, Wim berley, Fair, \Vaite and others are work ing to cut down their time. It is with distinct feeling of optimism that those in terested have watched the progress of th team, and a public performanc I eagerly anticipated. Euphradian Reception On Monday, March 26, the Euphra dian society had as their guests at ai informal reception the young ladies o Columbia and Chicora Colleges and o the University. The evening's progran was one of great variety and indeed wa one of the most enjoyable affairs eve given by the society. Music for th reception was furnished by a four-piec negro jazz band, known in society circle as the T. P. Taylor Jazz Four. The guests were welcomed in behal of the Euphradians by their presideni G. H. Wittkowsky. The first event oi the program was a vaudeville skit, "Th Count of Hocum and the Peanut Butch er," by the team of Bill Collins ano George Osborne. Their presentation o tricks, jokes, songs and a clever lin of chatter was greatly enjoyed. Thes two were followed by the "Prince of Fui Makers," an alumnus of the societ) Angus Macaullay, who kept the house il roars for his alloted time. Following Macaullay came the head liner of the evening, ,he debate, "Resol vedl, That the Female of the Speciesi More D)eadly Tlhan the Male." The af firmative of this query wvas upheld by 'A F. F'airey, Jr., andl N. A. Turner, an. D). I,. Hates and M. I,. McCrae defendel the negative.
