"Tackey" Party.
The "tackey" party given last Thurs
day evening at Flynn Hall by the
Women's Auxiliary was from every
standpoint a howling success. Profes
sors, their families and students turned
out in large numbers, expecting to have
a big time; and were not disappointed.
From the moment the grand march,
headed by Dean and Mrs. Baker, began
until the disappearance of all the "eats,"
there was not a dull moment for one of
the many "tackies."
One of the features of the evening was
a stunt given by the Y. M. C. A., a wed
ding in which the following participated:
Secretary Bell, the minister; Mr. David
Gaston, the bridegroom; Mr. Kelly
Josef, the bride, and Miss Em Wilson,
the bridegroom's wife. The Y. W. C. A.
4tunt was a wild west film starring Miss
Bm Wilson, who was supported by the
cfollowing cast: Misses Rosa Heyward,
C)Sarah Meredith, Catherine Floyd and
fjElizabeth Beasley. The applause for
iboth of these stunts was very liberal.
6 The instructions of Secretary Bell to
0-fix up 'tackey" had been so faithfully
:-jcarried out that the judges experienced
c3no small amount of difficulty in deciding
gjwho most deserved the prizes. How
'sever, with the aid of the other guests,
-ahey finally reached the conclusion that
Miss Mary Prevost should receive the
coveted reward for being the tackiest
girl, "Red" Jennings that for the tack
iest man, and Mr. "Pat" Adams and his
blushing bride-Mr. Kelly Josef-that
for the tackiest couple.
When the stunts were over, the prizes
awarded and the peanuts eaten in the
auditorium, pink lemonade and cakes of
an indescribable nature were served in
the rooms where the new rugs are, until
the hunger and thirst of everybody be
longed to the past. As it was then about
eleven o'clock and Friday wasn't a holi
day, the guests speedily departed, each
sincerely hoping that the party would be
repeated next year or at some earlier
date.
State Bar Association Meets on
Campus.
The South Carolina Bar Association
held its sessions for 1923 in the Petti.
gru Law Building on this campus. The
association opened on Thursday, Feb.
15th, at 4 o'clock. On Friday all law
classes were suspended and the associa
tion held a morning and an evening ses
sion. About 125 out-of-town members
were present. Several notable speakers
appeared before the association, but the
main speaker for this year's sessions was
Dr. Mikell, Dean of the University of
Pennsylvania's Law School, and a na
tive of this state.
Dr. Mikell also honored the law stu
dents of the University by giving them
a short talk on Saturday morning.
"Joree" Wheeler Elected Captain.
Joe E. Wheeler, better known as
"Joree," star center, and for three years
one of Carolina's best, was elected at a
meeting of the Block C men before
Christmas to captain the Gamecocks'
1923 football eleven.
During the past season "Joree" had
the distinction of being picked by Evans
as center on his All-Southern honor
roll team for 1922. With "Jorce" cap
taining the team and backcing up the line
wve are already building high hopes for
a big season next fall.

The speaker gave the following as th<
chief qualifications for Christian leader
ship: Dependability, initiative, character,
industry and personality.
"We can't be leade'rs without a good
character. We must get men who arc
qualified for our groups. Genuine
Christian character will give us great
religious spirit on this campus. We hate
hypocrisy. Unless we back up what w<
attempt to do we are not leaders. One
immoral act is enough to cause a man

He continued in part: "Give us a
character on which we can depend. I1

a success in business be dependable. One
must have a thoughtful sense of duty t<

The German Club Dances.
On Monday, February 12th, the Ger
man Club gave its annual mid-winter
German at Ridgewood Club. The ball
room was tastefully decorated in a color
scheme of green. The music for the oc
casion was furnished by Sache's orches
tra of this city. The affair was easily
one of the best and most enjoyable
mid-winter dance of years. Various mem
hers of the faculty were kind enough tc
attend the dance as chaperones.
As a new feature the German Clul:
gave an afternoon dance on Monday
evening. likewise at Ridgewood. Not a
very large crowd attended, but those
present had ample recompense for any
difficulties of attendance.
These dances continued to show the
increased spirit of cooperation existing
between the students and faculty. It
has certainly improved our dances, and
hence, both faculty and students should
be complimented in their effort-an effort
based on the one sound quality which
will produce a better Carolina.
