BIDDIES LICK WOFFORD FRESH (Continued fron Page One) Dow, and the three mei on his left Kniotts. 1'ressley and Cantey, playel jam-up ball throughout the game and if the Vofford backfield had been it heir class the score would have heer different. Lewis at right tackle and New in the backfield also played good ball at times. For the Gamecocks the stars wer< mostly of the backfield order. Boat wright was the most, consistent 'gainet taking from five to thirty-five yards on practically every attempt that he iade. His side-stepping in circling the ends and running back punts was the best that he has done this year and that means the best that he ha: done oil avis field. Time and agaii lie would get away for a good gain when it seemed that he was dootne< to be smothered before he could ge started. Jeffords and Boatwright work nicely together on this part of thc game, Jeffords always opening up a hole for the little <Iuarterback by drop ping a man just as P. J. gets under way. Jazz was in the limelight witil the 24 yard line and the other fron the 32 yard l.ne. The big fullback gets his entire weight behinds his kicks and they shoot betwcen the bars as if they had come from the cannon' motith. jazz also did some nice lint bucking in .the course of the afternoon' play. He is one of those "triple-threat" men, car rying the ball, passing and kicking with equalibility. The way he was throwing those passes last Friday was a pleasure to watch, and we couldn't help wondering jr,st how many more touchdowns the Biddies would have re gistered if Joe 1illard could have been out there to pull them down from the ethereal heights. There are not many college backfields that have as nieh football brains in four heads as we have in two men, Jeffords and Boat wright. The Carolina line was not quite up to siff in its playing against the Ter riers, but at that our men put up ju9t as good a game as did the Wofford linemen. Long, Murdaugh and Sholar played the best games in th line. The two big tackles didn't look as good as they have in previous games but we have not yet seen them .up against a pair that is bet.ter. In fact if an all star varsity-fresh team were to be chosen, they are two of the three or four freshmen who would probably be put on it. Sholar stopped most of the plays that started around his end and played a conspicuous part in the scor ing of the afternoon by the clear way in which he received the passes that Jeffords shot to hin. Bartelle played good ball at tines but appeared a bit slow. Indeed from eld to end the Biddies looked stale and it was only the great work of the backfield that kept things going as well as they did.
