them off their feet, making twelve per
fectly good first downs to the North
Carolinians four. The Biddies also
made a season's record here by block.
ing three kicks.
There was a perfect constellation of
stars, but there were two who deserve
special notice. These were Joe Lillard
and Alex Murdaugh, both native sons
of the Capital City. Joe, at the Biddies
left end, played a driving, smashing
game that was a joy to the hearts of
football fans. lie would, without ap
parently exerting himself, pile up the
interference on top of the runner, get
by the interference and dump the runner,
or sometimes he would do both, cut
down the interference and the runner
too. Alex Murdaugh at left tackle was
a fit sidekick for Joe; he played a hard
and snappy game and was a power in
the Carolina line both on the offense
and defense; incidentally lie blocked two
of the Tarheel's heels, one of them be
ing the try for goal after touchdown.
A. Dukes, Sholar, and Bartelle also
shone in their respective positions in the
line. The whole backfield had a chance
to shine. Jeffords aided his team great
ly by his punting; Boatwright's run
ning featured while he was in, and De
Lornie, his substitute, won the game by
his line plunging.
For North Carolina Griffin was the
star; lie ran 40 yards for the touchdownl
after lie had intercepted a forward pass
a few minutes before; lie also made all
four of his team's first downs. Robin
son played well at center in the Nortl
Carolina line, while the defense ol

North Carolina could not gain and De

off a 25 yard run but on the next play
South Carolina fumbled. North Caro

threw Grinin for a ten yard loss, and
Devine attempted a place kick. Mur

run two plays and kick for a time
although South Carolina made a first

brilliant interference. When the ball
was snapped for the dash by Griffin
23 seconds of play remained in the
first half. ''l try for goal was made

GOOD CHANCES LOST
Carolina kicked off the 20 yard line
and North Carolina was forced to
kick. B3oatwright took the punt andf
returned it 35 yards. Smith inter
cepted a forward pass on his own
eight yard line. Devine kicked out of
bounds and his own 40 yard line. Caro
lina rushed two first downs in quick
succession, driving the ball to North t
Carolina's 20 yard line, where a v
fumble horned in and North Carolina
recovered. The Tarhcels lost four
yards on two plays and Devine kicked.
Carolina shot a forward pass to
\V right for the first down and Jazz9
caught a short pass ' for five yards.
Another forward pass went, but Smith
intercepted the next on his own 18
yard line. Three smashes at the line
availed nothing and Devine kicked. A.
Dukes blocked the kick hut the ball
rolled straight xick to Devine who
fell on it on his own five yard line.
Devine's kick was short and it was
South Carolina's ball on the 25 yard
line. A first down was registered
I)ut the ball was lost when the three
smashes failed to make the distance b
and the fourth was bungled. The
third period opened by Devine kicking I
to his own 45 yard line. South Caro
lina failed to gain as did the visitors
who kicked. DeLorme replaced Boat
wright and J. Dukes went in for Jas
kiewicz. jeffords ripped off a first
down, and Wright and Dukes made
another. Dukes added five yards
and when North Carolina was offside
on the next play, it was South Caro
lina's ball with a first down on the
20 yard line. DeLorme went 13 yards
to North Carolina's seven yard line
and on the next play carried the ball
over for a touchdown.
