Euphradian Society Meets. The E.uphradian Society held a most entertaining and instructive meeting Tuesday, Oct. 17th. The society is to be congratulated upon the fact that every man assigned for the program was present and acquitted himself well. This is taken as a good indication of the unusual interest which the members of the society are showing in this year's work. With the return of many old society men and the addition of quite a number of the new and promising freshmen, prospects are exceedingly bright for one of the most successful years in the history of the society. As to last Tuesday's program. Isa (lore Polier, a new addition to the so ciety, gave a very pleasing and thorough account of last week's current events. Messrs. Turner and Jones immediately won the society with their witticisms. Mr. Hart, one of the old stand-byes, declaimed very well indeed, while Mr. W. C. Johnson, a newcomer, bids fair to become one of the society's best speakers. Mr. W. D. Carr, the extem poraneous speaker, acquitted himself well with the subject, "What a Student body Owes to its Football Team." The debate was very interesting and well handled by the speakers who seem ed thoroughly prepared. The query for debate was: "Resolved, that the State of South Carolina should furnish text books to the Grammar Schools free of charge." The judges decided, after a heated deliberation, in favor of the neg ative. Next week's program gives evidence of being quite as good as that of last Tuesday, and it is hoped that all of the members of the society will make every effort to be present, as this is the last regular meeting of the first term. With Five of Our Engineers. Just a few wor(ts from five of the hard, rough engineers of the class of '22. We are with the Southern Bell Telephone Company in Atlanta. Geor gia, taking the general training course. In this course there are 33 college graduates representing tell different colleges. From the standpoint of quan tity, Carolina ranks third among them. Georgia Tech is first with seven men, then V. P. I. with six, and Carolina next with live. Tnere is only one other South Craolina school represented and tihat is Cleison with two. The re llailing schools that Seit students are tile University of Alabama, Mississip pi A. and M., Pulrdue, Tulane, Ken tucky State, and :Alabama Polytech nie. The training course will last .. .six mionths, ending just before Christmas. The work consists mainly of observa tii ill the different departments. F,v ery week we are given our assignment and we report to that job for tile time specified, usually ole week. In this way we get a general idea of every branllch of tile organization, and also what tile (iities are inl that branch. The advantages of this knowledge. both from otir v'iewploint as well as thlat of tIle C'ompany, are easily seen.
