calling on Alr. P. K. Smith.
Not having had previous notice
Mr. Smith was reluctant to
make a talk but when he was
warned that he would either
have to make a speech or get
iarried he rose to his feet with
such alacrity as to albost dis
tuirb the equilibriumlil of the
Iable.
It is rumored that a certain
young man got, a pliley bone
from one of the fowls served
and pulled it witl . (rtain
prominent co-ed, and that the
young man got tle short end of
the bone, thus signifying by
this augury that, he would be
the first one to get m1iarried.
It also follows as a p)art of' the
legend that if this bone is

People oftentimes need a jar
to wake them up. Our speech
needs to be awakenl-to bet
ter speech. To do this, or sup
ply the jar for our vocabulary,
it would be a good i(lea to put
on a Better Speech Campaign.
Let this last one week, having
lectures and talks on Better
Speech, and too, every one that
is caught using incorrect Eng
