HIS BETTER SELF cS When Jimmie- finished high A school, his father sent him to O college. The so11 had his choice -a University, denominational college, military school. Jim mie preferred the university. For three years lie was coi tented, bubbling over vith am bition-a far sighted youth, with a mind of his own. Thenl caie the compulsory church at tendance law. Jimmilie rebelledl. Thru a process of reasoning lie consulted his other self. "What is this rule?" lie asked? Doesn't the Bible say: 'Six days shall thou labor, and on the seventh rest?' " "Quite true," replied the other self. "Does that mean you should ieglect your religi ous duty simply because you labor six days with your stu dies? Did not your parents make you go to church?" "They did," camte the reply. "They instilled in my heart the value of the love of God. They thought for me then, now I'm supposed to think for myself." Then, according to your way of thinking, you believe your self justifiable inl forgetting your duty towvards your God?" "I do not! I am not rebell ing against God. I'm simply opposed to using IHis house as a class room, of being forced to make this house a place of col legiate work." "You are narrow-minded(." "I do not think so. I'm my own man, suppose(d to be capa ble of applying the faith my parents inculcated in me, with out being forced by solicolle else to apply it for me." "Do you realize you are o(d vocating stui(lent rule?" "You are Iistakenl. I ami merely stan(ling up for my rights-the pleasure of wor shipping as I chose." "You are a hypocrite." "I would be if I went against my better ju(gment by public ly announcing church attemn an1ce, regardless of whether I atteml(led on my owi free will or nlot." "You are placing your col lege in a bad light before the Christian colleges." "(lod is ily judge, not other institution. Either man or in st itutioni is spiritless if they do -those things contrary to their u way of thinking, simply for fear of what the other fellow s will say." "All this is merely your own a.piniOn." "It is the opinion of the ages. Had this so-called mioral been for the betterment of 0111 Universities, just institutions would have adopted it long ago. It is the same p)rin1cipal against wvhi ch our forefathers fought and( dlied. It is a direct stab) at4 the freedomi and rights of our st ud(ent s." "WVhat r'emedy wtoul you 'jsuggest?" "Tat the governing body of this inistitutioni pause for a muoment and reason. By think THE LACK OF NEWS There has been a great dirth of iews ar-ouild the canipi this week. Nohbody has shot any bo<dy.
