last Friday night with a very
good attendance. The President
and Vice-president being absent,
Mr. W. -1. Parker, literary critic,
took the chair. Mr. W. 0. God
will acted as literary critic. One
new member was elected and
iniated into the society. The fol
lowing program was carried out:

Debate: Resolved: I'hat. The
Colnbia Newspaper, "PIblic
Defender" is a yellow journal,
and deserves conldenlnation at the
hands of residents of the city.

CLARIOSOPHIC SOCIETY
The Clariosophic Literary So
ciety met Friday night and an in
teresting progran was carried
out. W. J. Gaines presided. Mr.
"Jonnie" McMillanl was initiated
into the society.
Messrs. E. H-. Folk and M. P.
Wells added a gleam to the glory
of "Old Edgefiehl" and deserve
especial mention for their work.
The debate wis oin a current ques
tion and held the interest of the
audience. The program wis as
follows:

IHYPATIAN SOCIETY.
Th le H yp)atianl Society held its
regular meeting D)ecembher 10, in
thie Euiphradian Halt. This meet
ing having been set aside for the
readiing of tihe revised constitu
tin. there wns no nrogrram. The
motion lield over from the
preceeding mIieetting was again
brought up for discussionii and
passed. Under this amendment
each member must have had pub
lisied in one of the student publi
cations at least one article before
she may receive a society diplo
ma. The President is to appoint
at the first meeting in each month
a quota of girls to write for that
month; if the appointed girls fail
to serve the fine will be collected
for non-performance of duty.
The Constitution was ratified
by the Society as read. Those
most interested hope that this be
gins a new era for the society, as
there are many changes which
should add to the efficiency of the
society an(d its members.
THE UNIVERSITY GLEE CLUB.
The Ulniversity Glee (lub, un
der the direction of Mr. Maurice
Matteson, will make its first ap
pearanice at the Columbia Thea
tre on Monday evening, Decem
ber 19. The programn will con
sist of music by the club and by
the (uairtet, and inl addition to
this there, will be several clever
skits. The announcement of this
has created much interest on the
campuis and a large crowd of
students and city folk is expect
ed. Tickets will he on sale at the
Wigwml Saturday.
