Woffoi College and Converse Oollege are hoeta and' hostesses this year to the delegates from the other colleges of the Associa tion. The S. C. C. P. A. was organized to promote newspaper wbrk and journalism among the respective colleges of tbe State. On tomorrow night, 'the conven tion will come to an end with a formal banquet at Converse Col 'leg. This banquet is one of the most attractive features of the convention and is. always a most enjoyable affair. The cMileges 'omposing the S. C. C. P. A. are:. Smith was given a crescent and a star. Block ''C's" were awarded to Sizemiore, Wheeler, Gressette, Robinson, Quattlebaum and A. J. Beck, manager. Stars were given to Waite, Crub rockinton, J. Reve de Geologle Carries No tice oi E.lection of Uni verbity 'Professor. recent issue of the "1evue de Geologie," the official organ of the Societe Geologique de Bel gique, caries a notice of the elec tion of Dr. stephen Taber, pro fessof of geology in the Univers ity of South Carolina, as corre spondent of.that society. Professor Taber -.was chosen for this position because of his notable contributions to the science of seismology. He has previously. been elected for the same reason a fellow of the Lon don Geological Society and of the Geological Society of France. Within the last few months, Dr. 'abet has had two artiiles in the Bulletin "of the Seismo logical Society_ of America on the "inglewood , Earthquake in Southern Califorinh, June .21, 1920," and 'the "Jamaica Earth quakes and the Bartlett Trough.' The last issue of "The Geologi cal 'Magazine," an English 'peHi odical, reviews p,n article of his on the "Porta Rica Earthquake of 1918," speaking of Dr. Ta ber as an. "expePienced seismo logist," and, the mettoir as "one of the most important recent contributions- to seismoldgy." R. O: T. C. CAPTURES COLUMBIA COLLEGE C. C. Girls Witnessed Big Sham Battle. On last Saturday morning at 9 o'clock, the R. O. T. C. of the University of South Carolina hiked out to Columbia College, where they were baptised with fire from a surprise - party which xd been se'nt out by Major Duvall. The main body reached C. C. about 11 'o'clock and imthe diately deployed in the woods to the left of the" college. They then concealed themselves be hind a ridge and awaited the approach of the enemy. . After several minutes of rapid march ing, the surprise detachment opened fire tipon tha main body. The girls who had beern at tracted byp pie fire ha'd by this 'time corftg *ut.on the campus axd were watching the battle. Oni the hill in front of C C. the attackinig party $dyanced by rushes upoi-thegnenmy. Tihe girls witnessed the action with much ensthusiasm and judging BRiAt CARNIVAL STAGED BY CO:EDS Gymnasium is Scene' of Pun and Frolic. Young Ladies Plan to Obtain New Equipment for Place of Study on Campus. There was more fun and frolic at the gymnasium on last Wed nesday night than that old his toric structure probably ever saw. As someone remarked, it .pas just a wee bit of gay Paree. The co-eds ought to go into the carnival business. Theirs would be the .most successful show on the road. They had the gym artistically decorated and the different side shows ditto. Every thing was fixed up in the most alluring manner-in such a way to allure the nickels and dimes from the pockets of those mak Ing the rounds of the stands. - They were all there, the me nagerie, the guessing contest for a jar of candy (by the way who got that candy anway?), the ven ders of confetti, peanuts, pop corn, and other cqnfectionery vended by pretty co-eds with short skirts-who could refuse to dig for a nic'kel or a dime in those circumstances? There was the fortune-teller, the Spanish beauty, the rambling roulette wheel (which was, by the way stopped by the fair ma nipulator), the sellers of red wine, and 'nally there was the most heightening trip iI the aeroplane. Confetti and tapes found their way into the scented atmosphere and fell on the per sons who happened to be pass ing that way. Somq very artis tic dancing was another feature of the evening. The costumes worn by the co eds were very attractive and elajaorate,". reminding one - of a masked ball, with the masks missing. Everyone departed from the scene of gaity with a very happy feeling and wishing that the fun could have lasted longer. from'their yells seemed to en joy it very much. Mr. Cappellman presided at the Thursda ovening session of the Mdot Court in a very amus ing burlesque trial. Hubert Cox was tried for in sanity in the presence of the Law Asauciation and a large delega. tion of young ladies from Chi cora and Columbia Colleges, and, also a few co-eds of the Uni versity. John F. Quinn and Jimmie Crouch put up a good fight in an effort to prove the defendant "crazy," while G. L. Ford and M. Lambert resisted the efforts of the State with much efficiency. The first witness, Dick Rich ards, was the accuser, being the roommiate and also the rival of Cox for the hand of a certain young. lafly of a local college. Dick testified that Cox had dur ing the last year begun parting his hair in 'the middle, using high smelling hair tonics and perfumes; doing jazz baby dances, while wearing a rose be tween his teeth. Also that Cox had ahked Richards to allow him to be Richards' sponsor at ther Charleston football game. Also that Cox had requested Dick to run him for Easter Queen nekt spring. Dicks adds that Cox has changed from a handsome man to something looking like a cross between an ape and the last rose of summer. Miss Lalla Lee Lucias testi fled that she knew Cox in a busi ness way and that Cox was a frequenter of ther beauty parlors foP the purpose of obtaining her services in making him more beautiful. Mr. McDonald testified. the good character of Cox and 'Mr. McGowan of Hanging Dog.testi fled that Cox had often gotten drunk on hair tonic. Also, that while drunk, Cox had acted the part of a woman,-doing certain craav 'dances. He further testi fled to the fact that Richardb had been trying to get rid of (p* as a rival for a year. The whole trial was filled with jokes and laughter in whk'h everybody took part. Judge Cap pellman charged. the jad they in turn returned e actinitting Cox on the o insaatty, bult warning hi t quit drinlking hair tonic. After the trial, an' enjoyable reception was held which e$ery body enjoyed to the gNatest ext tent.
