The entire proceedings of the night were characterized by more than the usual pep. The declaimers for the even ing were: C. K rish and R. R. rilliams., R. M. Hope read somb interesting current events. 'u The query for the main debate was, "Resolved, That the Uni ted States- Government should recognize the Soviet Govern ment- of Russia." The judges ren*-ed a decision in favor of the negative, which was repre sented by W. S. Houck and S. M. Sifford. The affirmative side was argued by J. B. Glenn and H. B. Waters. Messrs. Chewning, Thompkins and Horowitz showed some new an gles of the subject in the volun tary debate. The impromptu debate query was, "Resolved, That co-educa tion should be abolished at the University of South Carolina," H -iomes and W. J. Gaines -,f corposed the affirmative side, while W. B. Harvey and J. B. Humphries upheld the nega tive. The president announced that, in accordance with cus tom, there would be no meet ing of the society during Fair Week. A recess was then tak.' en until the night of November 6th. Y. M. C. A. DRIVE MEETING WITH SUCCESS Up until Satarday the Y. M. C. A. drive has been 'meeting with success, some $525.00 hav ing-been subscribed on the $600 needed. Some men on the cam put have not yet been seen, but the committee has every assur ance of success in getting the money needed to run the Y for this year.
