Overalls is the cure for ex cessive profiteering; what is the cure for excessive "red tape?" The University has a won derful opportunity to show the metal of which she is made during the present week. Over two hundred high school stu dents are to gather here for the annual track, debating, oratorical and expression con tests. These students repre sent the cream of the high schools of the State; they are, so to speak, the "survival of the fittest." A majority of them will enter college next year, and in making their choice of an institution they will no doubt be influenced by the re ception given them by the Uni versity. Carolina is no place for the * :(r '1.L nIot have col lege pride. We 'are 100 per cent. true to the best interest of our University. While many of us are proved to knock and kick on this, that and the other, at heart we are one in our1 hopes for a greater and gr'andler institution of learning. And here is a chance to (lemon str ate our' loyalty. Let no stu dent, no high school teacher leave here with the impression that we are a set of "boobs." For the sake of common de cency, showv everyone consid eration ; for the sake of the fair name of Carolina take a per sonal interest in every student and show him that we arc a group of warm, courteous gen tlemen. You, Mr. Freshman, Mr. Sophomore, Mr. Junior, Mr. Senior, write it clearly on your face: "We are glad to have you with us." Leave your room open and ask them to make it their headquarters. Show them the many interest ing things on our campus. Make them feel at home. This is a rare opportunity for us to make a favorable impression upon the educational interests of the State. Next September will tell the story. What shall the verdict be? WISE AND OTHERWISE. "The Land of the Sky," the Best Place to Spend Your Vacation. The mecca of Southern stu dents and teachers is Blue Ridge, N. C. Last year five hundred and seventy-eight gathered there from sixty-four Southern colleges, and this year there will be undoubtedly 600. Blue Ridge is located two and a half miles from Black Mountain, fifteen miles east of Asheville, and is in the midst of the South's wonderful play ground, the beautiful "Land of the Sky." Behind Robt. E. Lee Hall High Top rises to nearly 5,000 feet. Across the Valley S....~.nandoah Creek, and over the shoulders of the Craggy the peak of Mt. Mitch el can be seen, the highest peak east of the rockies. And all round the halls and cottages that make up Blue Ridge, peak after pe.ak rises, with beautiful valleys betwveen inviting all lovers of nature to explore their rhod-odendron bordered paths. Blue Ridge is the most beautiful place of its kind in the whole South, and no one who has ever attendled a student con ference there but what wvants to go back. The proof of Blue Ridge is in spending ten clays there. Ask any man who has been there. CAROLINA'S BLUE RIDGE DELEGATION LAST YEAR Too Small to Represent the Real University. Carolina had only four rep resentatives at the Blue Ridge Conference last year--a num ber entirely too small to really represent a University like ours We were hardly able to make ourselves heard when yelling time came, which came at ev ery meal hour and then some. What we lacked in yelling, tho, was c.ompensated for by the wonderful time we had while there. The delegation was right there in everything else if there were only four men. Some took part in base ball, some in tennis and Caro lina was heard of more or less after all. But we want a larger delega tion this year. We want Caro lina to have no less than twenty men. It is un to every Carolina man to see that we have a dele gation of twenty or more men. If you can go, so much the bet ter, but if you can't go, per suade some one else to go. The expenses are small compared with the returns. Get busy, make plans, see Y. Secretary, -'pend your ten days' vacation at Blue Ridge in the "Land of th: Sky."
