APRIL FOOL DAY CELEBRATED. Students and Faculty Alike Ex perience April Fool Day Troubles. A few years ago it was the custom to cut classes on April fools day. Methods of coercion have caused this custom to die out. But it was determined that this April-fool should not pass by without some form of amuse ment. Accordingly, on April fool eve, Prof. Yates Snowden, while closing up his house at 8:30 p. m., to go to bed, found a globe of Charleston on his front porch. On this globe Prof. Snowden was drawn in detail, the cape and pipe being especial ly conspicuous. In his hand was a history of Charleston. "Char leston" was written in large let ters half around the globe and underneath in small letters was written, "InchJing the world." To one side in bold letters were, "We love our professor, horses." Next day in class professor ad mitted that he did not get the significance of this last word. The class replied that it was to emphasize their love. A little later in the night a Roman-candle display took place around DeSaussure. For a while it was feared the freshmen were being bombarded. At 2 a. ni. the professor's tene ment in Harper College under went a little excitement. The doors were securely bound to gether with wire. Two garbage cans were carried to the third story. These were trailed down the steps in succession. It sounded as if all the furies had broken forth. Prof. Mercer was waked up by plastering falling in his eye. His first thought was that Columbia was being bom barded with twenty-inch guns. Prof. P. K. Smith ran to the door, and when he could not open it, he jumped out of the window and put on a shirt-tail parade J. W. LANHAM ADDRESSES ASSOCIATION MEETING State Secretary Gives Inspiring Talk on "What Do You Expect?" Mr. T. B.i Lanham, formerly State Y. M. C. A. secretary of Ohio, and now State secretary of South Carolina, gave an in spiring talk last Wednesday night on "What do You Expect." "If the association only accom plishment was the influence it exerted in college," he said, "it would be a success." He point ed out that there are two classes of people, the quitters, and those that do not quit. Success comes to the latter class. He stressed the effectiveness of cooperation and the need of sympathy. He told his audience that the or ganization expects of them their share and that nobody else would do their part. The new officers were inaugurated at this meet ing. E. B. Smith, the retiring president, thanked the organi zation for the support it had given him and asked that this support be continued to the in coming officers. Guy Guillick, the ew president of the !Y., stressed the fact that a man can be manly, and at the same time be a Christian. down Main street. Prof. Olsen, thinking there had been an earthquake, and that the build ing was settling down, ran to the door and he in turn was denied escape by that means. He thought that the door had been jammed by the building settling down. Prof. Saunders was so busy sawing gourds that he was not disturbed. Prof. Jackson and Prof. Cook, who room opposite, pulled doors against each other, Prof. Coleman busted his whole class in an analytics quiz next day.
