ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION
Students Celebrate Washing
ton's Birthday.
The student body of the uni
versity will use the 23rd of
February to have a general
house cleaning about the col
lege grounds. They will be
ably seconded by the faculty,
members of which will appear
in the ranks of the workers
w-ith picks and shovels, hoes
and rakes. The co-eds, work
ing in conjunction with the
Civic League of Columbia, will
encourage the toilers with re
freshments and make the cele
bration a great success.
Campus people, students
and faculty, have been looking
about for some time for means
to beautify the old grounds.
But the failure to get paving
done, the disappointment we
have experienced in efforts to
get trees replaced and the like
have made them determine to
help therpselves. Hence the
decision to use Washington's
birthday in a general clean-up.
Mr. Gullick is put in charge
of the student forces, who will
be organized into details for
the many tasks to be done. Dr.
A. C. Moore, in charge of the
intelligence section of the gen
eral staff, will give the neces
sary information as to how the
trees should be planted. There
will be details to dig them up
and others to plant them. A
great deal of improvement will
also be accomplished by the
hauling of earth jnd filling in
the walks that have been
.washed out.
The co-eds are so earnest
about the work that they have
consented to be assigned to the
Q. M. Department and furnish
the rations. They will be ably
seconded by the Civic League
of Columbia, and the results,
we are confident, will be high
ly satisfactory. Photographs
will be taken of the campus
"before and after," from
which cuts will be made that
may appear in the Annual.

TO ADDRESS "Y."

Mr. William Knowles Coop
er, of Washington, D. C., has
been secured by the university
Y. M. C. A. to give a lecture
next Wednesday night. Mr.
Cooper is the general secretary
of the Y. M. C. A. of Washing
ton and is one of the most
widely known of the secreta
ries of this country, having a
nation-wide reputation as a
speaker. He is a member of
the Rotary Club of Washing

(5), and for an assistant tutor
or preceptor .0001 seconds.
Minister: "I believe that
fellow Stevenson is an ex-ban
dit."
Detective: "Why so?"
Minister: "I officiated at his
sister's wedding a while back,
and you should have seen him
hold up her train."
Sifford, J. P.: "Who was the
first one that came from the
ark when it landed?"

Sifford: "There must have
been three ahead of him, for
the Bible says Noah came
forth."
Dr. Morse: "Now tell me
