BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR TRACK TEAM. Several Former Stiars and Many New Prospects Appear. ' very prospect points to a successful season for the track team for this year. More in terest is being exhibited in this phase of athletics than has ever been exhibited before. There is a splendid array of men out on the field, including several men from last year's team, and an imposing array of new material. E. B. Smith, captain and manager, George Varn, A. D. Mann, "Socrates" Erwin, all of the 1919 team, have returned, and with W. C. Mann, a former track star, Co ley Seaborn, one time high school track wonder, and sev eral new men, the university should be able to put out the best track team produced in years. Among the more prom ising high school men out for places are Sizemore, Winter, D. 0., Kelly, Wright, Lam bright, Castles, J. O. Reid, Blount, J. C. Brown, W. L. Refo, H. H. Crosby, E. E. Schnieder, Harper, B. L. Smith, Sherrill, Skinner and Waite. Manager Smith is now busy working on the schedule, and is planning a series of meets both at the university and on the road. The completion of the schedule has been delayed because the track schedule has to be arranged in harmony with the baseball games. The most interesting meet under consideration is the one that is in contemplation with Har vard, who is at present trying to arrange a trip thru this part of the country, meeting all the larger schools on the cinder path. Other schools with whom Manager Smith is in cor respondence are Davidson, Wofford, Clemson, Citadel, Tech and Wake Forres;t. If possible, the team will make the trip to Atlanta and join in the great annual S. I. A. A. meet there. PLAN ANNUAL DEBATE. The Euphradian Literary Society will holds its annual in tra-society debate April 16th in the society hall, debating on the woman suffrage question. The query reads: "Resolved, That the Susan B. Anthony amendment to the constitution should be ratified by the South Carolina legislature at its next session." The society offers a medal to the winner of the de bate and a large number of contestants are expected to en ter the preliminaries, which LITERARY SOCIETIES. Clariosophic. The third term officers of the Clariosophic Society were in stalled at its regular meeting last Saturday night. They are: J. J. Stevenson, president; H. R. Smith, vice president; O. S. Ulmer, secretary; O. C. Black mon, treasurer; W. S. Miley, literary critic ; G. H. Varn, ser geant-at-arms. After retiring president, E. B. Smith, had delivered his ex augeral address, and the new president, J. J. Stevenson, his inaugeral address, the follow ing program was carried out: Declaimers-H. M. Lightsey, H. H. Crosby. Orator-J. C. Hooks. Debate: Affirmative-W. E. Ackerman, G. I. Rentz. Negative-B. T. Busbee, J. C. Webb. Query: Resolved, That all immigration to the United States, except that from Eng lish-speaking countries, should be prohibited for a period of three years after the signing of peace. Euphradian. At the regular meeting of the Euphradian Society last Friday night the officers for the third term were sworn into of fice. The following men took the oath of office: F. A. Thomp son, president; H. B. Refo, vice president; B. Pollikoff, literary critic; S. A. Black, secretary; D. J. Jenkins, treasurer; C. T. Hunter, financial secretary; E. M. Rhett, orderly critic; C. E. Hazeldon, recorder. After the retiring president, R. C. Thompson, delivered his exaugural address and the new president, F. A. Thompson, his inaugural address, the regular program was carried out. Hypatian. There was a regular meet ing of the Hypatian Literary Society Friday, the 13th. The query of the debate was: "Resolved, That there should be fraternities at the universi ty." Affirmative-Miss Langley and Miss Rembert. Negative-Miss Sims and Miss Vaughn. The debate was decided in favor of the affirmative. The meeting ended with a general discussion of the sub.. ject. will dlecide the four men to con test for the medal. All mem bers of the society intending to enter for the debate are re quested to notify D. J. Jenkins before April 1st, in order that suitable dates for the prelimi nary contests ma be h arranged. J.
