Timmons then tried a place kick which was blocked by Bailey. Stevens punted out. On the first play, Carolina was penalized for off sides. Mc Donald then interecpted a pass a and ran for 5 yards. He gained as 8 more over left tackle. Then 2 Stevens broke loose for a long .E end run, placing the ball on 9 Carolina's 15 yard line. W. & L. penalized 15 yards for hold '5 ing. An attempt forward pass, Mattox to Corbett, failed. Raines made 4 yards around end. On the next two plays, W. & L. failed to complete two passes and the ball went over. Timmons took 5 around left end. Skinner 2 yards around right end. As Goodman at tempted to punt he slipped and the ball rolled on the ground for 15 yards. McDonald pick ed it up and returned 12 yards. W. & L. penalized 5 yards for off sides. Stevens took six around right end and Mattox 3 yards over center. Ball on Carolina's 20 yard line. The next play, a pass from Mattox to Corbett, gave W. & L. her first touchdown. Mattox missed goal. Mattox kicked to Smith, who returned 10 yard. Skinner failed to gain and Goodman punted to Mattox. On the next play, W. & L. was penalized 15 yards for hurdling. Stevens punted 20 yards to Timmons, who was downed in his tracks. Skinner took 3 yards around right end. A pass, Timmons to Smith, made first down. Tim mons failed to gain. Another pass, Timmons to Brockington, netted 5 yards. Quarter ended with ball in Carolina's possession on W. & L 30 yard line, 3rd down. Second Quarter. The first play was an incom plete pass, Goodman to Smith. Goodman punted ball over goal line. Gamecocks held on next play, but failed to stop Mattox the second time. He crossed the line for second touchdown of the game, and then kicked goal. Timmons kicked to Mattox. Cobb gained 3 yards thru center. The next play was an incomplete pass. McDonald then took 5 yards over right tackle and Mattox made first down. McDonald 1 yard thru center. Incomplete pass. The next play, a pass, Mattox to Corbett, netted 35 yards. Mattox lost 1 yard and Cobb took 6 over left tackle. Then Corbett cought a pass from Mattox behind the line, which would have been a touchdown, but Mattox was not five feet from line of scrim mage and ball was brought back. W. & L. attempted an other pass, which failed. Caro lina's ball on own 15 yard line. Goodman punted to Mattox. W. & L. penalized 5 yards for off sides. Goodman intercepted forward pass and ran 3 yards. Corbett threw Skinner for 12 yard loss. Goodman punted 40 yards. Smith beat the ball down field and downed Mattox in his tracks. Cobb took 1 yard around left end, but failed to gain on the next play. Next was an incomplete pass and then Mattox punted to Skinner, who was downed in his tracks. Car olina failed to gain on attempt ed pass, Goodman to Skinner. Half over with ball in Caro lina's possession in mid-field. Third Quarter. Stevens substituted for Cobb, Crawford for Lightsey.
