FACULTY NEWS.
Chaplain W. T. Rivere, of
the University, attended the
Synod of the Presbyterian
church, held in Anderson, S. C.,
November 4th, 5th and 6th.
This Synod was held for the
purpose of discussing Foreign
Missions and a large crowd was
in attendance. While in An
derson Chaplain Rivere met
many of the alumni of the Uni
versity who expressed their in
terest in the college and their
hope for its development along
greater lines in the future.

tended the meeting of the After
-o War Committee, held in Atlan
- ta November 4th and 5th.

Anderson's veterans of the re
ment war, Tuesday. The An
- derson people prepared plates
for 1,500 and celebrated Arm
istice Day in an elaborate way.
Dr. W. S. Currell, president
of the University, has gone to
Chicago to attend the conven
tion of the National Association
of College Presidents. He will
be gone for a week, the sessions
of the association beginning
Tuesday and continuing for
several days. He also will at
tend a conference of the Rocke
feller Foundation on Education
the latter part of the week.
HAPPINESS UNBOUND.
When Pandora opened that
traditions box to satisfy her
idle curiosity, she subjected
this old world to a multiple of
stings, and tho the butterflies
of hope soothed away a part
of the pain, some of us still rely
on the dictionary as the only
refuge of Happiness.
This old planet is the hang
out of a lot of birds who go
round looking like advance
agents for a hard winter. Its
no use to tack the lids on your
own coffin-there will be a lot
of idle onlookers handy when
that tearful occasion is pulled
off, besides, who wants to be
the sole mourner at his own fu
n eral.
In your mad rush to the sun,
dlon't overlook the stars and
lesser planets-they are worth
consideration.
We know a lot of profession
als who grope blindly around,
hiding the sunshine of today
under the clouds of tomorrow.
Don't waste time seeking
contentment somewhere else
Happiness isn't a place, its just
a state of mind.

assumes its Jumbo like reality.
At the last few meetings
there have been quite a good
many distractions. There is
one especially playful rat-at
least twelve miles long that
scampers here and there in
search of nourishment or
amusement. He must get the
latter if- he appreciates fear
(all donations towards a means
of capture will be gratfully re
ceived.)
Then too-footall practice
draws a number to the window
until they they are sharply told
to "fall in" by the hard hearted
instructor. A few meetings
ago one of the boys staying on
the campus in his .eagerness to
taste the forbidden pleasure of
witnesssing a meeting of the
Bloomer Society-fell from his
hidden perch in the little win
dow at the top of the Gym. He
was saved from serious injury
by being caught in a hair net.
Instead of being grateful to his
life-saver he sho .ved a spirit of
revenge by hiding the basket
ball up in his room. When it
was returned it was partially
filled with tobacco which
caused such epidemic of
sneezing that the meeting hasti
ly adjourned.
The class really is accom
plishing wonders. The girls
all feel better and have become
so strong that they pulled the
oar locks up from the floor
screws and all-and are on the
road to being called Amazons.
So you who say "they didn't do
that when I was a girl"-just
smile and realize that " the old
order changeth and giveth
place to the new"-a healthier
one.
Track Team Organized.
The University is already
preparing for a track team the
coming spring, and from the
number of men in school who
are known to be good athletes,
indications are that the Garnet
and Black will put out a credit
able crew. Edward B. Smith,
centre on the 'varsity football
team and a star runner, has
been elected captain of the
team.
Among the fast athletes who
will be on'the team are: Carl
Crane, of Liberty, Coley Sea
born, of Pickens, W. C. Mann,
of Pickens, Socrates Irvin, Ed
Smith, "Red" Webb and a host
of others who are capable of
giving their opponents a warm
reepntion.
